The Benefit cosmetics thread. What have you tried?

I have tried a lot of Benefit products over the years, since they were still just a single shop in San Francisco. I like the line because they try new things. I think they have innovated some products we take for granted now, like primer (Dr Feelgood) and highlighter (that liquid stuff, Highlights, I think it's called.) But often it is gimmicky and I never think of them for basic products like eye shadow.

I am really happy with their Stay, Don't Stray primrr/fix for concealer. It's a bit like spackle for keeping foundation and concealer on spots.

I am underwhelmed by They're Real mascara. I find it too gummy and much prefer the new Max Factor lengthening mascara.

I also can't get enthused about their new eyeliner pencil, which is meant to be easy to apply right next to the lash line. I am posting from bed and will come back with specific product names later. But I was wondering which Benefit products others have tried.

I loved Georgia powder...which they discontinued.
And the body moisturiser, Touch me and try to leave (was a huge treat as so expensive)...which they discontinued.

Dr feelgood didn't do anything for me, neither did Bad gal mascara.

I have 2 eye kits that are good and got some high beam in a gift set which I liked but not enough to buy more of when it was finished.

Labrat72 · 24/09/2014 17:51

I love They're Real. It works really well on me. I also love the Hervana that a pp linked to. My favourite ever product was the stuff in the blue glass bottle that you painted on to keep your makeup in place, I forget the name. It was amazing at keeping my drawn on eyebrows on all night.
I was gutted when they stopped making it & have never found a decent substitute

Jenni2legs · 24/09/2014 18:12

For those of you that like benetint I found fake vampires blood that Joke shops sell around halloween is pretty much the same product - for about £2

meltedmonterayjack · 24/09/2014 18:43

I really like Porefessional. I've tried a lot of others, No7, Smashbox, Laura Mercier, Barbara Daly, but keep coming back to this. It's pretty pricy though.

I have high beam but I find it hard to apply and it doesn't look too great. Not impressed with the foundation I've tried or the mascara.

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 24/09/2014 18:49

The only Benefit product I have is the liquid stain, in two colours. I have never tried it on my cheeks but I use them on my lips all the time and I love them.

I am keen to try their pore minimising/disguising cream. Can't remember the name of it. i spent ages looking at their mascaras the other day but I was a bit flummoxed by so much choice so I came away with nothing.

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 24/09/2014 18:52

The only thing I dislike about the Benetint stain is the 'nail polish' styling and the fact the brush really tickles your lips in an uncomfortable way when you apply it.

SauvignonBlanche · 24/09/2014 19:00

I've just got a tester of Big Easy foundation, will see what its like.

BravePotato · 24/09/2014 19:05

I love their big beautiful eyes kit.

Love the mascara (black with pink writing, which one is that?) though Diorshow is better.

Their kohl pencils are amazing! Best in the market.

The Boing concealer works for me, but I have yellow-y (olive Wink ) skin so I imagine for pale ladies it would not work.

Hate benetint, I end up with beetroot fingers!

I Like "You Rebel" tinted moisturiser, but again, I am fairly tanned and it would not suit most English skin.

BravePotato · 24/09/2014 19:06

Liked benetint lipbalm but that glossy wet look a la juicytube is a bit over now, isn't it?

TheEnchantedForest · 24/09/2014 19:14

I loved their bronzes '10' but it has been discontinued. I haven't found one better yet.

temporaryusername · 24/09/2014 19:39

I've been lucky to get a few benefit things as presents, overall I really like the brand. I quite like the 'porefessional' primer, if you want a more dewy than matte look then 'that gal' primer is good - you can mix the two also.

I have high beam but haven't really tried it much yet. I have a mini posie tint which I like as a blush but find too drying on the lips, so I would be interested to try the balm version.

I have found 'They're Real' fairly good, but I do tend to mess it up if I try and use the spiky bit at the end. It can look really good, but seems to get clumpy if you try to build it up. I can't decide if I prefer Mally mascara which I was using before.

TallulahBetty · 24/09/2014 19:56

I LOVE Dallas - perfect combination of blusher and bronzer Smile

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 25/09/2014 21:52

I love Dandelion blush and boing, I wear them every day. I have my eye on the hello flawless oxygen foundation, porefessional and gimme brow following a makeover at one of their counters, first time I have wore makeup the lasted all day.

House of Fraser have 20% off Benefit today and tomorrow, unfortunately I'm away atm and I'm not sure what shade I am (it's written down at home) so can't order online.

Not blown away by their mascara though.

DorisIsALittleBitPartial · 25/09/2014 22:08

I think I'm the only one here, but I love They're Real mascara. I tried Bad Girl Lashes but binned it cos it gives me panda eyes Hmm
And I love the Hello Flawless powder too. It's a really natural colour and you can build up the coverage. It's not cakey either like a lot of powders. Didn't get on with the foundation though as it's too thin for me.
Have just discovered Porefessionals (is that the right name?) which I love too. Oh, and Lemon Aid. That goes on my dark circles and balances out my rosy cheeks under non-Benefit foundation.

temporaryusername · 25/09/2014 22:17

Oh yes, and 'gimme brow' is great.

ilovemydoggy · 26/09/2014 04:49

Boots have got samples for they Christmas range for £5 each. Had about 8 items could you buy to try.

honeypie10 · 26/09/2014 06:59

Can i just hi-jack this slightly and ask you all a question about benefit.

I was advised to buy the gimme brow recently to fill in my sparse eyebrows, she tried it on me in the shop and i was amazed, I loved it. I got it home though and after a day or 2 my eyebrows were bright red, itchy, and flaking so i stopped using it obviously. Would they take it back as im clearly allergic to it? Or would i have to use it again to go in and show how it goes on my eyebrows? never taken beauty stuff back before but seems a waste ofmoney to just leave lying there? thanks

CambridgeBlue · 26/09/2014 07:38

I've used loads of their stuff over the years and generally really like it. Dandelion is the product I use every day although as an all over powder rather than a blusher - I thought that was how it was supposed to be used. Only thing that makes me look awake some days!

Porefessional is good and I love Bad Gal pencil and the plum mascara which works well with my green eyes. Hoola is a great non-sparkly bronzer and I love the little mini kits.

Didn't get on with They're Real though, found it really clumpy and unnatural looking and agree the brush is crap.

The product I miss most is their Shrinkwrap mask, it was amazing. It visibly tightened and brightened your skin but just looked like a pot of green goo! Don't know why they discontinued it but suspect there may have been something dodgy in it because it was that good!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/09/2014 09:05

Honeypie - I'd definitely take it back, the worst that can happen is that they say no. Did you buy it in Boots? I've had Boots staff tell me that if a product doesn't suit my skin then feel free to return it. Department stores I would imagine would be reasonable too, not sure about the Benefit shops, never been in one.

moreproseccoplease · 26/09/2014 09:41

I fell for the hype around the 'They're Real' liner. I hate it. Sad

Whippet81 · 26/09/2014 10:32

Their blushers are good - I have Hoola and Bella something - the very pink one?

I also like my World's Greatest Neutrals eyeshadow kit.

Benetint is probably their best product.

I did use Erase Paste but someone on here pointed out the Number 17 one - and to be honest it's just as good.

Their lipsticks have now gone completely naff. I also don't get on with Brow Zings.

High Beam is nice.

I have never rated any of their foundations and you can get just as good primers for less.

I used to adore Benefit but it has now gone really gimmicky and I really can't justify £25 for a blusher.

A MAC counter appeared next to the Benefit counter in our local Debenhams and along with what seems like the whole world I have switched allegiance. I can justify £15 as a treat for a lipstick and they just have so much more choice and it is all far more pigmented.

honeypie10 · 26/09/2014 13:46

whoknows Thanks, I did take it back in boots and she let me change it for other things, so thanks to this thread i now have the flawless foundation, erase paste and some pore professional stuff! Hmm shouldnt have opened this thread at all Grin
