That disappointing moment when your ebay purchase arrives....

And it's not at all what you hoped. In my case, a tan bag that is much lighter in real life. Sigh. When will I learn. Back on ebAy it goes.

Yes, I have lived and learned in this respect. When I see something on ebay, I now try to think not about how it could be exactly what I'm looking for, but about how it could disappoint, what's probably wrong with it etc. I still get some nice stuff and keep my clothes shopping costs down, but there is always that fail rate.

However if it's a leather bag could you darken it? Have a look online for leather darkening oil/treatments or dye.

Lordnoobson · 22/09/2014 13:07

countered with that OMG its ace moment?

DarylDixonsDarlin · 22/09/2014 13:29

Hmm I stopped buying off ebay for this very reason. So often disappointing, I reckon I only get an omg moment for one in every 10 purchases.

SpaceStation · 22/09/2014 13:44

The other thing I do is if I see something I really like but it's £££, I'll check it out/try it on in the shop and make sure, then wait for it to come up on ebay a few months later. Then it's tried and tested!

TychosNose · 22/09/2014 15:22

Oh don't. I bought two pairs of jeans last night, which I totally don't need but I convinced myself they would be perfect. I've made a terrible mistake haven't i?

cardoon · 22/09/2014 15:40

Rebay is my favourite pastime Hmm

victoryinthekitchen · 22/09/2014 15:53

...not just ebay, I ordered some things from La Redoute and they were nothing like in the catalogue. Still have them lurking somewhere, not sure why!

ThisBitchIsResting · 22/09/2014 17:07

I paid 99p for a French Connection navy strappy 'dress' in the summer and it was a polyester slip Confused I don't believe it was FC at all. It's been useful though.

wildfig · 22/09/2014 17:11

I've had so many of those. Now I make myself ask, 'WHY is this person eBaying this apparently perfect and versatile and unworn item of clothing?' before clicking bid. There's usually a very good reason. Possibly because they bought it off eBay themselves and discovered it was not what they thought.

CoconutAmericano · 22/09/2014 17:22

This is why i am never buying shoes online again. Not unless i know exactly what i'm buying and have already tried them on in real life. It is so disappointing when they turn up and are uncomfortable or the colour isn't as expected, i know.

smoothieooo · 22/09/2014 17:25

Ah yes. The Coast dress that had only been worn once. If it had been worn only once, it was on for a very long time. Long enough for an ink stain to occur and for 2 very noticeable holes to appear. Peed me off to have to pay for return postage in order to get a refund.

But.... I got a pair of new ballerina flats from Next for 1.99 and a Karen Millen strappy red number for 2.99 so it's not always bad! Grin

Romcom · 22/09/2014 18:27

Haha! Thanks for the solidarity! Smile at rebay. And yes, there are some steals in there somewhere.....
I could try and darken it, but would probably wreck it knowing me....

I always have the same problem with Joe Browns, but at least you can send the stuff straight back...

foxinorangesocks · 22/09/2014 21:19

I recently got a jigsaw skirt that arrived covered in dog hair Sad

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/09/2014 21:19

This week I have had a dress that from the picture looked like a purple jersey type beach dress (turned out to be a bad pic and it was a navy double lined more night time type dress) and a woolen hooded dress that I thought was grey and was also dark navy. Confused

I like both and the first dress was a total bargain considering what it turned out to be (both hollister and both bought for about £1, probably due to rubbish pics!) :o

I now need a jersey/cotton beach dress though!

angeltulips · 22/09/2014 21:26

Hard to have much sympathy for the poster who paid 99p for polyester. You generally get what you pay for these days on eBay.

Sapat · 22/09/2014 21:33

I stopped using eBay ca 2008. Too many dodgy descriptions and lousy purchases. Also people often want too much for their crap.

WipsGlitter · 22/09/2014 21:36

Just got some monsoon trousers they're a bit worn but were 99p so... You get what you pay for! Plus am skint and really needed some more trousers!

That said, what eBay is brilliant for is picking up a spare of something you wish you'd bought two of at the time. I've managed to track down two extra BNIB pairs of Clarks wedges that are in my Top 5 Impulse Buys ever - I knew they'd fit, I knew exactly what I was looking for, and because they're 2 seasons old, they were about 1/4 of the original price.

They balance out the many, many pairs of Paige jeans that never fitted as well as the pair I tried on and bought in the shop.

Princesspond · 22/09/2014 21:45

You're so right, clothes are particularly bad I got suckered in by 2 coast dresses (1 too small 1 totally doesn't suit me) an All saints jumper (bit odd in real life). My rebay pile is huge! On the plus side I did once 'win ' an accessorize leather bag that I'd really wanted (£45) but was out of stock & found on eBay brand new (£10) Smile

SpaceStation · 22/09/2014 22:00

Yes or for when you have a favourite item that's worn out, or that you've lost, and you can get it again!

BettyMoody · 22/09/2014 22:09

i never ever buy topshop jeans new. look for the ones with the crap photos.
I got white Baxters immaculate for £4 ( offered her a BIN for a tenner she rejected) and loads of black ones. One pair needs dyeing again but were only £3
