I have nothing suitable. Well, maybe a black tea dress with small white polka dots?
I also have a husband the same height(5'8) so I feel very self foncious wearing heels.
Fashion doesn't come naturally to me really.
We live on an sub tropical island and I've spent 8 months mainly wearing vest tops and harem pants.
I usually have an ok figure, but have recently had my 4 th child so at the mo I'm probably be 12/14. I've just started running again though so hope to get that down by November. Which is when this party is.

I know I'm going to feel self conscious no matter what. (Have confidence issues) so indeed to feel comfortable.

I'm thinking, tea dress, blazer and ankle boots? But have no idea where to get these or how to put it together.

Help please!

Can I chip in with a cultural difference? Bridesmaid dresses are only that in countries where bridemaids are the norm. I only found out about that tradition when I moved to UK. So for many, a BM dress is just a pretty dress. It might be like that in the OP's island

Hi, yes I only said the same to my husband earlier. I might be getting a bit carried away. I don't want to get there a look like a tit!
I think the link from Pinterest with the white jeans and sparkly top might be nearer the mark.

Although my friend (who looks like a supermodel!) the fashionista...told me she is wearing a "shiny dress and killer heels"...but that's not me at all.

Casual cocktails on a tropical island sounds like a floaty kaftan & jewelled heels to me.

www.odabash.com/shop/beachwear/dresses/chloe-33046.html?___SID=U this sort of thing

AngryBeaver · 24/09/2014 09:51

Argh, not keen on that one cross!

I like it, and I love the orange one. But I don't think it's posh enough.
My mum said she's been looking for me (in UK). She found a silky beady top, and black and white trousers from oasis "like harem but fitted" and bejewelled sandals from Dune.
Sounds quite nice, but couldn't find matching descriptions on web sites!

If it's on a yacht won't it be bare feet?

I would imagine cocktails would be glitzy frocks but casual cocktails would be 'I slipped this old thing on over my bikini after a day frolicking on the white sands'. Then managed to blow dry my hair and add some jewels.
Unless a lot of the other guests are American then maybe more dressy.

Is it the Carribean?

AngryBeaver · 25/09/2014 08:46

No it's not on their yacht. It's at their fab villa, (with harbour views!
We're in the Hauraki Gulf.

Just had to google, it looks amazing.
Sounds like your mum might've got it right.

i live in a warm climate and honestly, if the dress-code is "cocktail" (casual or otherwise) I would wear a dress but many would wear trousers and a beautiful top.

Is the invite for casual cocktails or the dress-code itself "casual cocktail"?

AngryBeaver · 25/09/2014 22:05

It is amazing cross... But incredibly expensive. A punnet of tomatoes for instance is around£4 at the moment, sometimes more.

The dress code is casual cocktail.
