Eyeshadow primer and eyeliner for a woman in her 70s

I'd like to buy my mum both of these. She's in her 70s and is pretty fashion forward but her skin is becoming difficult - she's finding eyeliner smudges and shadow collects in creases. I use black powder/a sharp brush for liner, and urban decay primer, but I get the feeling these might not work for her.

I would be very, very grateful of recommendations - could afford about 30 for both together.

Haven't used but Bobbi Brown does a stay-put gel eyeliner and long wear eye pencils. Also Clinique do a really soft eye liner pencil that kind of swivels up so you never need sharpen it and they have some nice soft shades- not just dark brown or black which would be too ageing unless she wants to look like Joan Collins.
Shadow- Bobbi Brown again- pot of cream eye shadow- but would she go along to try colours?

Thank you, pinkfrocks - the Bobbi brown stuff sounds good. I could book her in for a make up session with them so she can have a look at colours. Would you not bother with primer when using the cream shadows?

I don't think you need a primer with cream eye shadows- I use BB powder eye shadow and it doesn't crease, though am younger than your mum. I use a layer of foundation under eye shadow.
Def book a make up session for her.

I'd suggest to use a push liner brush like this: www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/145/814/Products/Brushes/Eye/212-Flat-Definer-Brush/index.tmpl - loads of brands make them
And a powder shadow - I don't use black, but instead a dark brown. Mac Mystery works really well for me.

A gel liner such as this one from Maybelline: www.boots.com/en/Maybelline-Eye-Studio-Lasting-Drama-Gel-Eyeliner_1294929/ lasts really well and is also great to use with the push liner brush.
I have the black, the black with gold and the brown one, and I prefer the brown for a less harsh look. The brush that comes with the gel liner is actually pretty good for lining the eyes and doing a cat eye/flick.

Using a bit of powder eyeshadow in the same colour on top will help make the liner last.

This video explains the method I use pretty well:

Try the givenchy ombré couture cream eyeshadows. 16 hour hold and creaseproof. About £18 each but they last forever

I dont think eyeliner would be the best choice for a woman in her seventies. I am 42 and find eyeliner too harsh now. Would eyeshadow be a better choice?

workingtitle · 22/09/2014 09:44

Cindydog, yes I think liner may be too harsh for her, just what she's been used to using. Powder would be better by the sounds of it, and the cream shadows like laracroft suggest sound great.
