So quinoderm is no longer available and my life may as well be over

Just that really. After discovering quinoderm to sort out my horrible acne (aged 30!) when I went to replace my tube it transpires it's not available any more while they fix an issue with non-EU ingredients...

Does any have any recommended alternatives? I think it's benzoyl peroxide I need but the pharmacies I visited trying to track down quinoderm couldn't suggest anything.

I've been having horrible gut-sinking hating-myself moments all weekend thinking about my skin. Yes I'm being dramatic but I have very pale skin and not much confidence so numerous bright red spots makes me want to stay at home, cry and hide (and I do!) Confused

Duac cream (prescription) is brilliant op.

Otherwise benzoyl peroxide - it goes up to 10 percent I think.

Solaia · 21/09/2014 20:45

Thanks - So I need to get duac prescribed by a GP?

I think Duac has been withdrawn. Try Panoxyl which is now back and available to buy.

Solaia · 21/09/2014 20:53

Ok I'll have a look for that, thanks!

Boots sell the proactive regimen or you can get it online. It contains benzoyl peroxide which is the ingredient that works in quinoderm.
The previous posters suggestions are prescription only btw.

MrsDavidBowie · 21/09/2014 21:27

Yes Duac has been withdrawn

spookyskeleton · 21/09/2014 21:30

Panoxyl is back?? Fab, I used this with great effect until it disappeeared. I then started using the acne.org stuff but it is imported from USA and not as effective.

rainbowinmyroom · 21/09/2014 21:32

The Proactive stuff in the UK uses salicylic acid rather than benzoyl peroxide.

Tapirbackrider · 21/09/2014 21:50

Try Acnecide - it's a 5% benzoyl peroxide gel, available without prescription from pharmacies. Dispensed a shed load of it since Quinoderm was withdrawn.

BumWad · 21/09/2014 22:29

Acnecide is great

Mondaybaby · 21/09/2014 22:33

Wish I had known - I would have stockpiled some tubes of it. I have about half a tube left of quinoderm now. My face isn't so bad at the moment thanks to being on Dalcin T but the quinoderm on top really made a lot of difference.

mrsminiverscharlady · 22/09/2014 09:28

I don't think Duac has been withdrawn - ds was prescribed some just last week. It's already made a difference to his skin, more so than Quinoderm did.

MrsDavidBowie · 22/09/2014 11:44

No chemist round here has any Duac

Quinoderm is amazing effective acne treatment I have used it for a long time when I heard it was hard to get I stocked up, I have a few excess tubes if anyone wants to buy ??

DigApony · 10/03/2015 20:06

I have acnecide on prescription it's very good. I prefer the oxytetracycline tablets though.

ChrissieLatham · 11/03/2015 22:40

I used to get differin (adapalene) gel on prescription, it's good stuff.
You can also get EpiDuo which is the same but also contains benzoyl peroxide which is in quinoderm.

LindyLoo101 · 06/04/2015 01:21

I've been a user of Quinoderm for decades. It's the only cream that has ever worked for me. Recently, my local Boots store advised that they have been given a date of May 2015 for further supplies, so fingers crossed it may yet be available once more. Regarding the issue of EU ingredients, I recently had the same issue with a brand of specialist varnish I use. On recently re-ordering, the latest supply was far inferior to the one I've used for years. On complaining to the manufacturer it appears that they had to change the formula due to EU regulations. I wish the EU would stop interfering with the manufacturer and supply of products that people have used happily for years!

I used to get something from the doctor called zineryt. Really good topical lotion. It's just annoying that its prescription only...

Allie82 · 06/04/2015 11:19

Have you tried the LA Roche posay effaclar duo? Was too harsh for me but seems to work for a lot of people...
