What to wear for a family photo shoot?

I have been given a photo shoot as a gift for me, DP and our 10 week old DS.

I absolutely hate having my picture taken so am dreading it and planning on just having a couple with all of us, and the majority of just DS.

But what to wear? None of my nice clothes fit as I still have plenty of baby weight so will probably have to get something new but I don't even know where to start.

I'm about a size 16 atm, with a big post baby tum and massive boobs (E cup). I want something flattering obviously.

And should I take a couple of outfits?

And what to dress DS in? Naked, baby grow or outfit, or a combination?

And DP? A smart shirt or more casual?

I know we can all wear whatever we want but I really don't know where to start so some help would be muchly appreciated Smile

I would wear something like a gypsy style top so it flatters your boobs but doesn't lie tight over your tummy and black trousers. Concentrate most on your hair and makeup and perhaps wear a big bright necklace or a big bright flower in your hair so the focus is more on that.

You can have photo's taken lying on your front so just your heads are in shot looking adoringly at your DS. Or one of you holding him on your shoulder so you have your back/side to the photographer but your babies face is in view. I would go more smart casual with you and your DP and do both naked and dressed baby pic's. You can't beat a plain babygro but also have an outfit on hand in case the photographer wants to take lots of DS. That way people won't know it's the same photo shoot.

We had one done in the Summer and it was lots of fun and the photographer didn't know us so we could be less self conscious and laugh/giggle and do silly poses while he clicked away.

Enjoy but be prepared to be there a while as babies are unpredictable Smile

Hiya, my sister is a portrait photographer. The main thing from looking at her shoots I would say is wear something where your bra straps are not showing, it looks dreadful in the pics and people are always asking her to photoshop it out (altho her view is just don't wear that in the first place)!

Wear something simple, and plain. Jeans and a white tshirt/shirt always looks classic, or a nice top. Anne is right about good hair and make up, and a bright necklace being the most important. I suggest DP more casual too, but co-ordinate your outfits (colour and style).

For the little one bring a couple of outfits and change there so they don't get dirty on the way. A plain babygro, and nice outfit, and the photographer might also do some naked or in a nappy, but will certainly do a couple of different looks and then you can choose which you buy afterwards.

Relax and have fun, and pretend the photographer isn't there, just mess about and have a laugh, its then their job to get the good picture.

Don;t know what your photographer is like, but I know my sister has two young kids of her own and just loves meeting other parents and children and having fun with them all.

Wear plain colours that suit you. Same for your baby (the baby probably hasn't had their 'colours' done yet but certainly my baby seems to suit some colours more than others!).

We had one of these done and best thing I did was go an get my hair blow dried a few hours before and have a manicure. I know this kind of thing doesn't suit all types but it made me look and feel really glam.

i went for simple clothes, I wore all black. A loose fitting polo neck and black jeans, boots and socks. With simple jewellery. I normally wear more colourful things but I like it as it's very classic.

We took our shoes off so make sure you've all got decent socks on.

It's also ok to go a bit heavy on the makeup as it made me look great in the photos. I wouldn't wear as much day to day but it doesn't show up as much in the photos.

Thanks all. Hair and make up is being done by the studio so that's covered thank god as I'm crap at doing my own hair.

This really is my worst nightmare but we have zero pictures of all 3 of us since he was born so I figured we need at least one, and it may as well be a professional one!

One tip that I got from a professional photographer is to wear long sleeves, or it kind of distracts from the faces and looks a bit too flesh dominant in the pics.
Try and make sure you're wearing co-ordinated and simple clothes with no logos or patterns, as it won't date as fast.
