Blonde hair - how to lighten and/or reduce brassiness (purple shampoo etc)

I have naturally blonde hair. I'm wondering:
(a) whether any of those purple or silver shampoos actually work to counteract brassiness; and
(b) I have used Sun-in in the past with success to light my hair & add some whiter blonde highlights. Is there anything better around these days for this purpose?

I have recently seen some photos of my hair from different angles and it is looking very yellow which does not seem to suit me Confused ... I definitely suit a whiter/cooler blonde but not sure the best way to get it

i should say 'some" success re Sun-in - it does tend to dry my hair out.

The purple shampoos do work. Tons of them on amazon, plus reviews.

Joico one I can vouch for it's excellence.

Thanks minkah. I know there are tons of the purple shampoos, i have tried a handful (not recently and can't really remember which ones!) but not really been impressed. Not tried the Joico one though, so will look into that.

A touch of silver shampoo seems the best to me, it looks more like purple dye. The lilac John Frieda (?) one doesn't seem to do much. I also saw something in a box beside the hairdyes in Boots which isn't a dye as such but restores ashy tones. Good luck!

one purple shampoo you could try is daddy-o from lush, its not cheap but out of all the ones i've tried, it does strip out the colour but keeps it cool in tone. it might help give you the whiter blonde you're after.

also, look for ellebangs on you tube, she's a hair dresser and colourist from san francisco, she posts lots of tutorial videos and specialises in looking after blonde hair, she's done some posts on using toners and purple toning shampoos.

the purple shampoos i use the most are touch of silver, the john freida sheer blonde colour renew one, and daddy-o.

I've recently tried the Philip Kingsley Pure Silver Try Me kit from M&S. Its £5 for a trial size of the shampoo, conditioner and elasticizer. It really took the yellow tones out of my hair from the first go. It says there's a £5 off voucher in there too.
Hope that helps
