I've recently got my Mirena removed (hurrah!) however this does appear to have caused my skin to go back to it's normal state, ie a few spots. I've never managed to find a really good spot treatment that actually works & dries so I can put concealer on top.

I do also need a decent concealer. Foundation-wise, I currently wear (when I have time/can be bothered) Maybelline True Match in Rose Ivory, it's quite pale.

Try Origins spot gel or dermalogica overnight gel , personally I preferred origins. Garnier used to do pure A tube which was pretty good , you might find it in superdrug ? . Their roll on is rubbish though.

I am a huge fan of the Dermalogica overnight clearing gel - I find a big blob of it at bedtime on any threatened spots works a treat (as long as I haven't had a sneaky squeeze of the area - which of course I never do, ahem....). I am very pale skinned and use Rimmel concealer in Fair.

Vitamin b6 is the best spot treatment I've ever used - it balances hormones, which made a lot of difference to my skin. That and not letting myself get dehydrated.

If prevention doesn't work, try kiehl's drawing paste, or Ella bachelor creme intex no.2, both work for me to kill spots quickly.

Concealer- I use Mac studio finish concealer

Bourjois do a very pale stick concealer.

Kundry · 18/09/2014 19:20

My top tip is to use the blemish gel everywhere - not just on the spots. The gel will contain salicylic acid and with consistent use will prevent new spots emerging. An acid toner is better under makeup as less sticky, but not just on the spots is key.

But wear sunscreen too!

Boots do a overnight gel with tea tree and witch hazel which has been amazing for my skin, decent price too. I'm also pale and boots no7 have a stick concealer that I brought in the palest shade and its perfect.

FamiliesShareGerms · 18/09/2014 20:36

The No 7 perfect blend concealer is really good

Have you seen Caroline Hirons' blog? It's ace. Her main 2 pieces of advice that I've found incredibly helpful are to double cleanse (possibly using two different cleansers, e.g. a mild exfoliant, followed by a lotion or cleansing balm, or using a cleansing lotion twice), and to never use anything foaming on your face even if it's a 'good' brand. My blemish-prone skin has never looked better, and feels really healthy.

I find that blemish gels, tea tree oil et al over dry my skin and perpetuate the cycle. Treating my skin very gently works best longterm.
If you're looking at cleansers, REN have a good range. I'm using Hot Cloth Cleanser and Evercalm cleansing lotion.

I'm another fan of MAC studio finish concealer.

Superdrug's own brand anti blemish gel, which is salicylic acid based, is v good and I agree put it all over the spot-prone area, not just on spots. For foundation, I am pale and currently love borjois healthy mix.

If this doesn't work though, what has really helped me most is Duac cream which you can get from the GP.

I like Liz Earle's spot on, it's about £7 but I've had mine for well over 18 months not and it's still half full.

I also find that tea-tree face washes are the best thing to keep blemish free (not completely but pretty much). I really like the Bodyshop's tea-tree wash

I like Kiehl's Blue Herbal Spot Treatment, which has salicylic acid in it as well as herbal stuff, it seems to work very quickly for me. Although I agree with what someone else said getting my cleansing regime right sorted out recurrent spots for me.

For concealers I love Benefit Erase Paste (use it as a eye base too) and Boi-ing for heavier duties.

maybemyrtle · 19/09/2014 13:37

The only topical that consistently works for me is the Boots Skin Clear Ultra treatment cream. Has salicylic and glycolic acids and actually makes a difference without making it more red or flakey. For concealer, the Urban Decay pencil or LRP Toleriane foundation or Vichy Dermablend foundation work for me. (I cycle them depending on my skin that day/colour match etc).

Thanks for all the recommendations, I got the Superdrug gel. The low price was very appealing Grin. I am going to take a list of all the recommendations for concealer with me when I go on a proper shopping trip in a few weeks as I live in a small town with tiny rubbish shops
