Are these Awful?

Wanted some black ankle boots this year which are flat and quite short - ie don't come too far up beyond ankle. To wear mainly with (cuffed) skinnies.

Tried these on yesterday.

They are very comfortable and I like buckle but wonder if they are too short and will look frumpy/ like pixie boots or worse on.

Honest opinions welcomed.

I'm not keen on Fiftflop shoes/boots as they all have that weird sole.

GreenShadow · 19/09/2014 09:58

I love your original suggestion Polyhymnia and much prefer them to any of the other recommendations. Go for it!

polyhymnia · 19/09/2014 10:14

Thanks, Greenshadow and everyone else who's commented. Think I'm going to go back and try them with my skinnies ( do already have some very nice Russell and Bromley ankle boots I wear with dresses).

i agree it will depend a lot on how you wear them and what you pair with the skinnies. they seem a bit awful in the photo (sorry) but I can imagine them looking good with the right overall "look"

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/09/2014 16:55

The Fitflops are actually even worse than the originals. If you're looking for something just plain and very comfortable, might M&S have something?

Too much of a heel?

These are cute

ocelot41 · 19/09/2014 18:12

I quite like them (ducks). They look like Campers

polyhymnia · 19/09/2014 20:18

Remus, I'm not a fan of M and S and both those have a heel, albeit small. For occasions when I'm prepared to wear any sort of heel, I already have some nice boots, including some Russell and Bromley Zip Code ones and biker-ish Duo ones.

But the idea was to get something really flat for everyday wear, as I've had a stupid knee injury which is just getting better and I'd like to keep it that way.

polyhymnia · 19/09/2014 20:19

Btw, thanks Ocelot, I like Campers in general.

Absolutely awful -run away !!!!!!!!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/09/2014 20:22

Clarks very flat and very cheap

polyhymnia · 19/09/2014 20:26

Sorry, know I'm a complete pain but not a fan of Clarks either. Nor do I want Chelsea boots with no zip. Sorry!

TSSDNCOP · 19/09/2014 20:28

They're a pointy toe away from being Blackadders shoes IMO Grin

ocelot41 · 19/09/2014 20:40

If you have a knee injury, then you have an injury. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and helps you get better. Hope it heals soon Brew

Myhusbandishardwork · 19/09/2014 20:45

I actually really like the ones you have originally posted about.

I dont think they are frumpy and im 27

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/09/2014 20:45

Sorry, but Grin re Blackadder shoes.

polyhymnia · 19/09/2014 20:55

Yes I did think there was something a touch medieval about them !

Thanks for the good wishes for knee, Ocelot. It's minor compared to what many others have to put up with and is improving. Still a bit annoyed I can't wear my usual chunky heeled boots for the moment!

Ive just got these to wear with dresses. Not tried them on yet though.

ouryve · 19/09/2014 21:20

I htink you should stick with your originals, then, poly

I like the style, though they'd definitely be too unstable for me.

I did some trying on, today. Tried on some merrell ones which were fantastically supportive, but not right for skinnies, as they were a little too tall and slim to look right
www.jonesbootmaker.com/ladies/boots/merrell/merrell-boots-rough-wear-boot-2630426511
And some clarks unstructured ones, which did what they said on the tin. I couldn't stand on one foot in them, as my ankle turned straight over as soon as I tried. Shame, as they were quite nice. Almost everything there has those rounded heels, which are simply no good for me.

I've ordered a couple of pairs of boots from dirty Amazon, though. Similar styles, but different colours.

These, in brown, because they'll be good for all but the snowiest and wettest school walks. I have my woolly Rieker Eike for that.

And these, in black, just because they're fab and look dead comfy. They have the same sole as my longer boots.

My mum does quite well out of me. She gets a lot of my cast offs, if they develop a problem that I hadn't appreciated the first few times I wore them (eg pain in the evenings after wearing them).

peasandlove · 19/09/2014 21:22

my nana would probably like those first shoes

polyhymnia · 19/09/2014 21:30

Thanks . Those look really comfortable. Am always meaning to try Merrell but agree those ones not tight for skinnies.

I think I'll go back to Geox in my skinnies and try the original ones . If they look OK and still feel comfortable I'll get them. Think they should be stable enough for me.

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 19/09/2014 21:31

Right not tight!

OP posts:
Coumarin · 20/09/2014 00:02

I really don't like them but because of the sole I think not the shortness of them.

I wasn't sure what pixie boots were so had a google and I don't see anything wrong with them, they look quite nice.

Milmingebag · 20/09/2014 00:11

Look at Softinos boots.

mrsdimmock · 20/09/2014 09:54

No, sorry OP, don't like them at all.
