Nail chewing

Hi my nails are in an ok condition but I nibble my thumb nails :-( I've been thinking about getting false ones fixed so that a) I get out of the habit and b) it gives them a chance to grow like the rest.
So. Would you fix a full set or just thumbs and any tips as it's my first time. TIA

TBH. I'd get the full set done rather than just your thumbs. You can either have the clear ones and they will paint them in the salon as part of the price but you can remove the polish and paint them any color you want. Mine are false and I paint them everyday to match what I'm wearing or you could have white tips which look nice and save on painting.

Thanks for your reply I was thinking along those lines and I don't want them too long as I still have hectic day to day life so do lots of cleaning etc and would be frightened to knock long nails.

You get to choose the length you want.

Would you want acrylic or gel?
Get a full set but go somewhere good that doesn't electric file the natural nail bed. Don't just choose the cheapest. Honestly you get what you pay for with nails and some places will completely destroy your natural nails.

Oh God what's the difference between acrylic and gel? Want long lasting and tough. Roughly how much are they is there a big difference in price? I don't want anything fancy just nice natural looking ones. Thanks

I have been a lifelong nail biter but had acrylic nails and gel polish done for my wedding 3 years ago and it was a revelation! I love my nails and hands now and get loads of compliments. I am never tempted to bite the acrylics - they are very hard wearing!

I'm in rural Dorset and pay £25 per time for any tips, acrylic fill-in and new gel polish.

Acrylic nails are harder and thicker. Generally cheaper too. They are made with powder and liquid. You have this Infilled so a set can last months.
Gel nails are sculpted tips made from hard gel they are lighter and thinner but can be not as tough. You have this Infilled too.
Gel polish is hybrid of gel and nail polish. It lasts 2-3 weeks without chipping and thickens and strengthens. This can't be Infilled it is removed and reapplied in whichever colour you choose each time. It's nail polish that really lasts basically.
If you bite then acrylics are stronger so may be better. There is no need to to get gel polish on top of acrylic. Normal nail polish lasts just as long on top of acrylic. The salon will usually paint them for you and regular polish will really lasts.
