Is it too late to decide what style I am? How do I know?

This is a really stupid question but I've never had a 'style'. I wear all sorts of things and as a result I don't look well put together if that makes sense. I'm very indecisive and have no idea what suits me.

Is it possible to just decide on a style and how do I decide?

My style is to kind of borrow from all sorts of things. I like to just wear whatever I fancy so long as it's not indecent or anything. I know there's certain things that don't look right on me, such as bodycon dresses and shorts of any kind so I just avoid those and frolick freely with the rest of fashion.

that said, if you do want to a particular style, I'd ask a few good honest friends and family what they think really suits you and have a trying on session in that/those styles and see if any of them 'speak' to you.

I would say identify your body type and read the recommendations from there.

Look at whether you have a waist or are more rectangular, big or more moderately busty and leg length. Note your good points you want to accentuate.

Next work out your best colours.

Do you wear/wAnt to wear make-up?

What sort of lifestyle do you have?

From there work out what you already have and what you need to achieve your look.

I would love to know this too - I've always fancied one of those House of Colour style days more than the actual colours one because I'd love to know what will flatter me the most and suit my lifestyle. I know you can mainly work that out for yourself but I'd love an objective outside opinion.

Milmingebag's questions seem like a pretty good start though.

Some of your style needs to come from your body shape. Certain things are never go to look good however much you like them. For example my figure is softly curved so masculine tailoring does nothing for me neither do large loud prints. Then it depends upon your personality and lifestyle.

Pintetest/people watching/magazines can be great for pin pointing what styles you like. If you go on pintetest just pin everything you like and then work out how to adapt it to yourself.

Great advice from One and QueenC , I'd also suggest picking the items in your wardrobe that you feel fantastic in as a starting point, see if there any theme that emerges from that, or identify why you feel good in them. Is it the colour, fabric, cut? Use this as a basis for the Pinterest search (because it is a vast resource Wink) and from there to browsing online shops and pinning possible items. When you see them all together on a screen you will get ideas of how to put it all together.

Is there any one shop/brand that you find tends to suit you or that you are drawn to?

Thanks everyone, Pinterest is a good idea.
I think the problem is I've lost some weight and now I'm starting to get a shape. Ive still got 3 stone to go but I have sort of an hourglass shape at the moment.

I'm so used to wearing baggy things to hide my belly that I have no clue how to dress nicely.

There are some fab tips so far Smile thank you

There's a good book by Colour Me Beautiful. It shows how to work out your body shape and proportions and has a quiz in to work out your natural style. This looks like a newer edition than the one I have, but I expect the content would be the same.

Well done on the weight loss my other Smile - really take your time finding your style, especially while you are still losing weight. I think you should buy yourself lovely things but some of them that you can wear now and think will look good/better when you are another 1/2 stone or more down may not look quite as you imagined (so don't go for investment pieces just yet) and it is very easy to get a bit giddy with the thrill of fitting into smaller sized clothes you wouldn't have tried before and end up with a load of stuff that doesn't really fit together or that is really 'you' Smile.
