Straight cut jeans and ankle boots - possible NOT to look frumpy?

Following on from a previous thread where it is a no-no to have jeans over ankle boots, I would love some suggestions for how to wear ankle boots with straight cut jeans.

I cannot wear skinny jeans (apple figure, wide hips, they make my very long legs look like parsnips), so it's long length and straight cut for me.

Has anybody managed to make an ankle boot work with a wider leg and not look frumpy?

For the record, I've got my eye on these:
clarks boots and
M&S boots

I need a flat or almost flat boot for running after DS in the park.

I have these and they look good with straight leg jeans, imo, my jeans just sort of sit at the top of them, and go slightly over & slightly in sometimes (its a very casual look though).

Ok I have just read that 'cuffing' blog - call me an unfashionable old gimmer, but I thought the whole point of boots was to wear them when it's colder? So why would you wear them with bare ankles, surely it defeats the object of the boots, just wear pumps or something instead?!

I have no answers, I don't know what to wear in autumn/winter with skinny jeans. I am slimmish, but with the shortest legs known to man and am quite fat of thigh and calf. If I do wear ankle boots I have to wear them with jeans over, otherwise they make my legs look even more ridiculous, even with cuffing. Brogues and converse don't really work because you can't wear them with socks. Any suggestions?! Smile

OMG thanks for that link, Ronald and Hebburn but my brain hurts now Grin Surely jeans and boots are supposed to be easy to wear? Otherwise what's the point of them?
