Anybody have to wear a polo shirt for work?

Been in my new job for a few weeks and there is just a "business wear" policy atm as they are changing names.

Once it's all processed they may be requiring us to wear a logoed shirt or polo.

Both of which will look awful on me. Any way of making it not frumpy and to slim it down?

I'm a 12ish on top (D cup) a 14 on the bottom and have a small waist. I'm 5"10. Polo shirts and normal shirts make me look a lot heavier than I am.

I currently tend to wear pencil skirts and pencil dresses with vest tops and cardis

It can depend on the cut....

Years ago I had a great job in the tourist industry. Similar size to you (D cup), possibly younger (late 20's) but much shorter (5''4).

We had white polo shirts with a small logo and they were fab - the best workwear I have ever had (and I now spend a lot of money and energy doing smart casual).

No ironing, zero effort, free and actually they looked fine!

BTW I love clothes, but this uniform meant I could spend my hard earned cash and valuable time on better things.

in summary, whilst I get where you are coming from it might all be fine :)

PS I made sure I got a small enough size and tucked it onto a pencil skirt

bonzo77 · 14/09/2014 20:09

I do. Size10, 5ft2, 30E. Get one small enough, wear with the buttons all open, to give the illusion of a v neck and therefore a longer neck. Love having a uniform, hate having to think about what to wear. Polo shirt with some give is far mor flattering than a shirt though.

I think I'm worried about looking big. If I don't have a nipped in waist I look about 3 stone heavier.
I can't ever remember what a polo shirt is like. In my head it's really super thick unforgiving material

Yes, and it is fuchsia pink. I have no words of wisdom, I'm flat chested and the polo makes me look enormous. Luckily I only have to wear it when I'm running events.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 14/09/2014 20:16

We have polos as optional work wear. Women can chose either a fitted one (shorter sleeves, fitted waste etc) or unisex (generally bigger and baggier).
Could you see if they offer an option for you to try them on, and both options of possible?

Another one here who loves clothes but also loves the uniform.

Yes get a smaller size than you are and take the side seams in on a sewing machine to make it fitted. Curve them inwards like a fitted blouse shape if you know what I mean.

samesizetoes · 14/09/2014 21:16

Yup, and I loath them. I went for the black unisex style and one size up so big and slouchy. Tucked in at the front of a very slim fit but actually straight cut black jeans trousers with a pair of Chelsea boots. Any ladies cut polo is just far too short and cuts me in half at the wrong place and makes me look huge.

underactivethyroidmum · 15/09/2014 20:42

Yes I do, I wear mine with skinny jeans and converse, its a unisex style and cant be altered due to company branding. I wear a cotton long sleeve t shirt under it in the winter and a wind proof jacket over the top if I'm really cold.

My work environment is very male orientated and provided I don't smell nobody cares how I look anyway Grin

only for events, and its not a great look, the women's cut is too short and the men's is straight up and down. Its branded with our logo's the company and the team and is a pale turquoise which looks a bit girly on the blokes Smile I like to feel smart at work and being in something nice makes me feel more confident, wearing a polo and dark trousers makes me feel lie I am about to run a gym class.
