Talk to me about pink hair... And pixie cuts...

Or maybe purple or blue.

I couldn't have unnatural coloured hair at work but I'm on adoption leave till about April. I normally have very natural highlights and a chin length layered cut. I can get away with up to about 3 months between cuts but they take forever, seriously, hours.

I'm wondering about going for a much shorter cut and then booking in a trim after about 6 weeks but then going for a really fun colour for a couple of months now. I've never done this before and never would again!

Could I get a few pink highlights (not a fan of the all over unnatural colour look) and then just let them grow out? Or something a bit more but not where you have brown roots? Is there anything that lasts a couple of months but just fades?

And realistically how much work is a pixie cut? I feel my wavy layers are a bit of a faff and I don't even blow dry them, just have to put in a lot of leave in conditioner etc. because they are quite tangly.

Not sure about the pixie cut questions.

Pink hair: yes, highlights are do-able. I had them earlier this year - created with a semi-permanent over white-blonde hair. They lasted around 8-10 weeks (fading gradually).

You know whose pink hair looks amazing and would be sober enough for the workplace? Kate from the Great British Bake Off. I think she's probably got brown hair underneath but a combination of blond and pale pink highlights would be really nice on any length hair.

I've had a short pixie cut for a while now. Love it. However, just growing it out as it's a bit of a faff in the mornings, plus I like the feel of my natural hair, without all the hair products in. It's a massive pain to grow out, beware! Also, if you do get a pixie, you will absolutely need to get it cut every 5- 6 weeks, it looks terrible if you let it go any longer.

I had a pixie crop with pink highlights whilst on maternity. Dyed them out when I went back to work.

I have naturally straight hair though so the crop was easy to manage, I could go three months between cuts too. Smile

Ooh I do like her hair but it would take a lot to get mine that light first. But it does look subtle.

I will definitely ask about semi-permanent, that sounds like a good time frame, I could have them done twice and then be back to normal.

Pink won't really 'grow out' btw, it's a colour that needs to be regularly topped up. It'll just fade out if you don't.

A pixie cut is very easy in terms of washing and styling but needs to be cut a lot more regularly than most longer styles. I have mine cut every four weeks.

I'm looking forward to going completely grey, having a pixie cut and dyeing it blue.

Won't be long now....

Lego do you have to use products on a pixie cut? Not sure I want to do that.

I had very short hair about 10 years ago but I have lost about 4 stone since so I don't have a clear idea about what would suit.

I do think a regular quick cut could be easier for our family though. I used to take a load of paperwork and my mobile to the hairdresser on a work day before we had the DCs. I can't really get away with that being part time so it takes half of one of our precious Saturdays.

You don't have to, it does depend on your natural hair type. My hair is very straight & soft so it just sits flat if I don't put something in it though. And I'm no good at blow drying to give it volume because I have spaghetti arms so I have to put product in.

Mine's quite wavy, so hopefully it would do something other than just sit there... fingers crossed...
