Dancing shoes

I've recently started learning to jive and would like some dancing shoes. I notice other women have strappy heeled shoes with a suede bottom.

As I'm very tall I'd like some with a heel that's only an inch or inch and a half and wide fitting.

There lots of shoes on Amazon etc but I'd really like to go somewhere and try some on.

Where would one shop for such shoes. I'm keen but clueless

I suggest you try emailing a few suppliers, asking about local stockists in your area. There will usually be one in a nearby town. Sorry I can't do links, but try - Supadance uk, Freed's of London, and Dansport uk. Equity shoes also do them with low heels, but their styles are very dated. All do various width fittings and heel styles .

I suggest googling dance shops in your local area. I have been trying some on recently (without success- wide feet). I went to a dance shop in my local town, tried on everything they have to offer. Then when I was in Bournemouth over the summer, went to a few shops there. Unfortunately the shop that boasted 9000 pairs in stock was closed for stock taking, the other 2 didn't have many styles. Mostly they seemed to be Roche Valley, which I found very narrow with square toes. There are loads of online sellers, but like you I would like to try before I buy, as I find most shoes don't fit me! Where do you live (approx)?

I'm near Birmingham.

Bloch should be able to kit you out. Look online for styles and then you can find a stockist near you.

The best women's dance shoes come from DSI (Dancesport International). I bought both my ballroom and latin shoes from them. The best men's shoes are from Supadance.

I know it is a bit of a faff but they are very good about returns, though if you get to a big competition they sometimes have a stall. If it helps I found that the DSI sizings are true to "normal" shoe sizings.

You will notice a huge difference dancing in the correct shoes, it makes a big difference.

FrankelandFilly do you know which makes come up wide? I looked at your DSI link, all the latin shoes were tan satin (not my first choice of colour).

FrankelandFilly · 10/09/2014 22:38

I don't know, sorry. My latin shoes are black non-satin. I'll see if I can find a link to them, they may not make them anymore as they are about 5 years old!

FrankelandFilly · 10/09/2014 22:45

Hmm, they don't seem to have mine any more. The Salamanca, Avila and Dominica come in black as well as tan, and the social dance shoes have a few more colour options.

The ladies Supadance latin shoes have more colour options, but I've never worn them so can't comment on comfort, etc. Link here

I'm not a dancer, but like an elegant shoe with a small heel, and just love the Social Dance range by Supadance, thank you Franke and apologies for minor hijack.

FrankelandFilly · 11/09/2014 06:56

That's ok Petal but bear in mind these shoes are not suitable for wearing outside because the soles are made of suede so as to ensure easy movement in the dancefloor. If you wore them outside the soles would rip to shreds very quickly.

Thank you Franke, the super dance shoes come in wide and extra wide, and different colours.
