Do you go off your own clothes?

It drives me mad. I'll buy a piece of clothing and love it too bits. I'll wear it often and feel amazing. A few months later, I'll hate it and struggle to wonder why I ever liked it.

Why does this happen and how can I stop??

Buying clothes is therapy for me (but not for my bank balance Hmm ) and I think sometimes I'll buy something for the buzz of it. Either because I've gone out that day to buy something and don't want to come back empty handed.

I do have some clothes that I have kept for many years and will always be much loved and worn.

I'm often complimented on my style so I don't think that's the problem. I tend to go for either a vintage (40s/50s/edge and also some 70s/80s) or a kind of 'indie' look (not sure that's the right word, for example: converse, tie dye leggings, long punky t-shirt).

What is your thought process when choosing an item of clothing?

I buy things I like and I think about how and when I will wear them and what I have already that will fit with them. I keep a fairly strict rule on having just 4 colours in my wardrobe so tend to gravitate towards those anyway as I know they suit me. This has evolved over time and along the way I have made many bad mistakes which I have sold on eBay.
I don't ever buy just so I don't go home empty handed I think that is almost like using shopping to fill an emotional need to get the thrill of having something.

I don't really go off things so much as I stop wearing certain things because they don't fit with whatever I'm doing at the time. I have a very, shall we say, eclectic sense of style so I look different from one day to the next. I love shopping but don't buy just for the sake of it, I'll often 'stalk' things and if I don't feel certain about liking it after a bit of stalking, I don't buy it

I think I'm the opposite of you, OP. I frankly don't much like clothes shopping, though I like clothes, and I buy rarely, but carefully and at significant cost with the idea of something lasting for years. I just bought a few key things for autumn and winter a few weeks ago, and other than a pair of boots and some tights, I won't buy anything again until spring.

So the idea that I would need to complete a day out by buying clothes is alien to me, and I don't impulse-buy. Like the pp, I think about how a garment will fit with what I already own, and I generally wear a limited set of colours (black grey, blue, green, white), so things generally work together, anyway.

I think if I had a more conservative style, or even one particular style it might be a bit easier. I'm not very restricted...even colour wise. Probably about the only colours I won't wear are white and maybe brown/beige.

I don't think I'm even a impulse buyer...I'm very indecisive and put a lot of thought into the clothes I buy. The problem is, I then might think about it completely differently in a few months time.

I look at clothes I practically lived in a year or two ago with horror/what was I thinking.....and get scared to buy new in case history repeats itself!

I'm the same OP. I can love something when I buy it and quickly think it's awful. There are a number of things I do to try and stop this:

  1. When I buy something new, I hang it in the wardrobe, tags on, and if I've not worn it within a couple of weeks, back it goes. This is usually a sign for me that it's not a keeper.
  2. I stick to colours that are tried and tested. Neutrals, navy, teal, mustard, olive.
  3. I avoid wild patterns. I get bored of them quicker than plain clothes.
  4. I try to only buy things that fit in with my existing wardrobe.

At last, I'm not the only one! Good idea about keeping the tags on MrsEbo although a couple of weeks is not always enough time for my love to turn to hate! And interesting...I like wild patterns and bold colours so maybe that's where I'm going wrong. I guess the more adventurous you are, the more likely you're going to make mistakes?
