Ok, so apparently I want to 'dress like an architect' and have looked at Cos...

Inspired by a recent thread here I took my desire for simple, but well-made and slightly 'edgy' clothing to the Cos website.

Here's my question: how well do their clothes suit people with generous boobage?
When I look at their underwear offerings, it appears quite clear that I am not their target market… (I am a 34G, size 14, 5'6'', 48 yo)

Any experience you could share please?

I'm 40 27 40 (32FF), just over 5'10, and I have never found anything in Cos that fitted me. I look like a barrel in those clothes. I look like I am concealing a model of Tracy Island about my person. But I don't like to wear fussy or primpy sorts of things - patterns and bows and all that. I'd like to wear Cos! But, eh, this is my body (and it's fine! it's where I spend the vast majority of my time).

I suppose the uniform I have settled on is: plain cowl neck tops from Me and Em, indigo New Look high waisted skinnies or those heavy double layer jersey pencil skirts that are everywhere, very plain boots with a nubuck or oiled sort of surface and a fabric 'biker' jacket (Jigsaw still good for these) or a wool pea coat - I've got a good one from Joseph. And black plastic NHS specs, of course. All Saints normally does a good hourglassy dress each year for things where I have to wear a dress. No scarves, no jewelry, no embellishments, no messing about. IDK if that's any use to you but I've typed it all out now so here it is.

If you read the descriptions it says how well fitted/loose etc they are. As a general rule anything with an empire line type bust doesn't have much room (e.g. I fit a 38 usually but anything like that would be tight - 32D bust here). Much other stuff either skims or is roomy, however watch out for the fitted stuff.
The trousers are pretty good, well structured and wear well. Again skinny trousers I am a 38 in (29" waist, 35" hips, low waisted, big bottom!), the less skinny styles generally have a bit more give.

Runkittyrun · 09/09/2014 21:30

PS I am pear shaped. I agree that the shapes aren't necessarily conventionally flattering, but I quite enjoy wearing odd structured shapes, usually with tight straight trousers.

Ah Pacific I LOVE a trip to Glasgow and Cos is where I head first. If possible, go when it's quiet and give yourself plenty of time. They have quite a lot of stuff, it takes a while to riffle through and spot things you like (much like H&M, but classier :o) and it does need trying on. It's not just structured figure-hiding stuff - my fave Cos thing is a beautiful fitted wool miniskirt (not too short though) and they also have lovely jewellery.

Build in a coffee afterwards with a de-stressing magazine and bob's your trousers.

Where are you in the sticks of Scotland out of interest nosiness? (I'm in Edinburgh but make a regular pilgrimage to Cos and the Apple Store.)

Grin

I am away for a long weekend this week (family wedding), but will have a child free weekday morning next week.

SpaceStation, I am in Lanarkshire, reasonably close to Glasgow.

Just to remind you that many primary schools are closed next Thursday and some Glasgow schools are also closed on Friday, so town might be busier those days

I look forward to the report too

PacificDogwood · 11/09/2014 07:57

Oh crap, yes, I had forgotten that Thursday is IndyRef day - it will have to be the next Thursday.
Do they not know that I value my Thursday morning child-free half-day??! Pffft.

Some people have no consideration Wink

I could always meet you for coffee and cos a week on Thursday ?

To celebrate or commiserate. Unless of course Cos and all the other English shops Hmm have closed and moved down south. And no one will accept our Scottish pounds . Maybe there will be armed police on the streets in case the English invaders get past the barbed wire and barricades at Hadriens wall .

Or perhaps the town will be deserted, as all the English /everyone who works in financial services /all no voters will be forced by their companies to sell up and move south on the 19th.

So there might be some bargains in cos?

Timpetill · 11/09/2014 09:05

I am so jealous Envy. I am an aspiring architect dresser, but I am forrin and we don't have Cos, and they don't ship here either. We haven't even got H&M!

ClaraDeLaNoche · 11/09/2014 12:52

I think we should hold off from mega Cos shop. There is 20% this weekend on Menswear so hopefully we will get an womenswear code soon.

In the spirit of equal opportunities, the menswear code is AW14MEN

maybemyrtle · 11/09/2014 13:19

I went into Cos yesterday and tried on so. many. items. Agree about sizing, the S/M/L etc sized things seem more relaxed fit than the stuff sized 36/38/40 etc. Ultimately I didn't buy anything but if they made this skirt in a 37 I'd have been all over it.

TheVeryThing · 11/09/2014 14:04

I am a shortish, pear-shaped size 12 and adore Cos. I agree re trying things on; I have also had success ordering online, but only where I was pretty sure the shape would suit me.
I once tried something on simply because it looked so bizarre on the hanger, ended up buying it and it is admired whenever I wear it.
Look forward to hearing how you get on.
