Is there any way to remove hair dye from finger nails?

Had a bit of a disaster dyeing my hair - my right glove split (one of those rattley plastic ones) & now have dye all over my nails - most of it has come off my hands but my nails are a fetching reddish brown Confused

Any suggestions to make them normal again?

Try biological washing powder ? I wouldn't want to use bleach as you will damage your skin. I take it you have already tried acetone.

I don't think anything will remove it. Hair and nails are both made of keratin - a protein (also found in animal horns and hooves.) So, dye for one is dye for another. A mild bleach solution may lighten it but will probably not be great for the nails.

I would recommend trimming short and painting a dark colour that disguises it until they grow out.

Nail polish remover or acetone?

lucysmam · 08/09/2014 09:48

I've tried nail polish remover but it's not acetone based so I'll nip to the chemist & get some acetone based to try.

I'll sit and paint them later on if no good.

Thanks for the replies Smile

Got any lemon juice you can soak them in?

lucysmam · 08/09/2014 09:55

I have, I'll give that a whirl before going to the chemist.

Scrubbing with a whitening type of toothpaste will help bleach the stains.

Alwayscheerful · 26/09/2019 22:56

Hydrogen peroxide from the chemist about £1

BrennieGirl · 26/09/2019 23:01

I second whitening toothpaste.
