do you clip or file your nails ( on fingers)?

Just wondering...

I find filing a chore. I have short nails and like to have no more than 1mm of nail over the edge IYSWIM. My nails grow quickly and need sorting after a week. Do you file ( with an emery board), clip or both?

I tend to clip then finish off with a quick file but clipping does make them very short....

I do both. I clip them then a quick file. I file in between trims to sort shape or rough bits. I like my nails short too.

Amy106 · 07/09/2014 18:04

Clip then file here too.

WanderingTrolley1 · 07/09/2014 18:05

File (and sometimes chew).

lordnoobson · 07/09/2014 18:20

trolley, is that YOU.
friend of m'brother?

clip then file. I can't have long nails as medical issues make them snap off so I keep them short

dexter73 · 07/09/2014 18:37

Surely clipping only makes them short if you clip them short? I do both.

bonzo77 · 07/09/2014 18:37

Clip. Mine are very short as they tend to flake. And I hate the sensation of them being long.

HamAndPlaques · 07/09/2014 18:38

Clip then file, with a glass file - much quicker and easier than an emery board.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 07/09/2014 18:44

Is there a reason that I don't know about why no-one cuts their nails with a scissors??

Mouldypineapple · 07/09/2014 18:47

Nibble..

Saurus72 · 07/09/2014 18:54

This sounds a but wierd but I had never used nail clippers until a couple of months ago when Sali Hughes extolled the virtues if the muji nail clippers. My nails grow so so quickly and I would go through a nail file each week keeping them under control, plus it too forever to file them down - I like dark or bright nail polish, and I don't like talons. Now I use nail clippers it takes a minute or so every couple of weeks, plus I like that I can clip them shorter. I don't need to ever file them now, as the clipper makes them perfect as they are.

addictedtosugar · 07/09/2014 18:57

Nail scissors here, so cut.

katiegee · 07/09/2014 19:01

i clip, then file to take away
any 'roughness'. I have to keep my nails short for work. I don't like the feeling of long nails anyway.

HamAndPlaques · 07/09/2014 19:34

mother I find it really awkward to use scissors with my wrong hand - clippers much easier.

Tobagostreet · 07/09/2014 19:41

Nail scissors then file away any sharp edges.

msfreud · 07/09/2014 20:07

I use nail scissors because it's the way my mother taught me and after 31 years I don't see any reason to change. Apparently it's bad for the nails but I've always had strong healthy nails.

I use a Leighton Denny glass file to smooth the edges after.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/09/2014 21:58

Clippers and crystal file here too. I'm a recent convert to the big clippers after having to borrow a pair for a broken nail at someone else's house, they are so much easier to use than the tiny ones.

HolgerDanske · 07/09/2014 22:00

I clip. Once in a while I will file but I've never got the hang of doing it properly.

onedogatoddlerandababy · 08/09/2014 10:24

Clip, then file if I need to/find the time/remember.
I only started when I bought some baby ones when dd1 was born.

Mine grow fast and I prefer them short can't use the touch screen on my phone with longer nails Grin
