Fat Bloody Calves

I'm sick of them.

Have to wear black leggings under everything in the summer because they look so hideous bare legged. Then when I heave a sigh of relief in Autumn because I can finally hide the damn things away I cant get any bloody boots that will fit my vile tree trunks. I hate Duo styles too. I just want some nice Dr Martens soled type knee high chunky robust boots

Just tried on some lovely knee length leather Dr Marten boots that I ordered online.

They don't fit around my calves and I'm wondering whether they can be stretched and how that would be done. The zip wont do up but I have read that Dr Martens leather 'gives' quite a lot with wear.

So can it be done ... and if I went on a diet would my calves shrink too?

Maybe I should have been born 100 years ago when legs were never seen.

My calves do shrink a couple of cm when I diet. I know that because I have three pairs of boots in the wardrobe that I can no longer wear. I feel your pain.

I had some luck , when thinner, with timberland boots. They are quite chunky and big around the leg. Not big enough for me at the moment though.

Your dms will not stretch. Send them back. They are only going to sit there accusing you of being the wrong shape. There are hundreds of women with sturdy legs. We are not the wrong shape , boot manufacturers are just ignoring us. Apart from duo who make boots for my mum.

You can have boots stretched if you take them to a proper cobblers. I don't know how much they'd be able to stretch them by though. it's usually only quite small amounts so if there is a big gap between where the boots fasten to and where the zip finishes, I'd send them back and try another pair. Better to send them back and get something that does fit properly than risk trying to stretch them and getting nowhere and then having them stuffed in the wardrobe because you can't send them back. I feel your pain, I have huge calves and it's all muscle so diets do nothing to change their size. I generally avoid long boots now as it's so hard to find any that fit my calves. I do know though that simply be sell boots in different calve sizes so you might be able to find something you like there

The only boots I have ever managed are fly london maos.

They are biker type boots and people often tell me they love them!

I would love some Dr Marten Triumph but sadly it's not going to happen

storynanny2 · 07/09/2014 11:02

I have had horrid cankles for ever but recently lost 15% of my body weight and they have definitely shrunk. My very tight boots from last year now are baggy around the calves so it might work.
What about trying shoe tailor online for boots which come in all different calf widths? Or Evans?

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 07/09/2014 11:12

I vaguely remember buckles and bows do different calf sizes.

Duo boots are grim and overpriced.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 07/09/2014 11:13

Oh and I lost 4 stone a few years ago (since put it all back on!) And I had to sell my (grim) duo boots as they literally fell down my legs they were so massive!

BikeRunSki · 07/09/2014 11:17

I have 43 cm calves and 3 pairs of these DMs in different colours.

IOnlyCleanMyOvenOnChristmasEve · 07/09/2014 11:30

I have DMs but they are lace up Triumphs, on my massive calves. Tried some Fly boots this week which were just not big enough to wear comfortably. Clarks also tight. Haven't tried many others, so I'm following here to see how you get on Smile

IOnlyCleanMyOvenOnChristmasEve · 07/09/2014 11:32

Oh and I've lost 3st before, a few years back, and my calves only shrunk half an inch each by the end! I was running at the time though, so its possible they may have been smaller if I'd lost the weight through a different activity (not walking, walking makes mine bigger) Hmm

blodynmawr · 07/09/2014 11:34

Love those Bike RunSki.
I too have 43cm calves and have these Fly Yusts and a few season ago pair of these M&S.
HTH Smile

Marking place, as I too have this problem.
So frustrating in the winter when I just want a pair of inexpensive high boots, only for none of them to do upSad

I'm a big girl, but have always suffered big legs and calves even when a size 12.

SomeCandyTalking · 07/09/2014 13:14

You've all made me feel so much better. So glad I'm not the only one who isn't keen on Duo too.

I do like those Dr Marten Authentic Wedge boots but a size 6 in black is not to be found on a quick web search.

The Fly boots might be worth sending for but the heels a bit high for me.

I guess these boots I've tried are going back. Simply too expensive to risk slimming into them or taking them for stretching.

I'm a 43cm width too btw and am contemplating wrapping my legs in cling film for the afternoon.
