What should I be wearing for the gym?

I know I should be wearing exercise clothes.

I'm overweight and unfit and in order to do something about that I am doing some exercise classes at the local gym, but I look truly awful and want to find some exercise clothes that don't cling to every wobble of flab.

I am a size 20 and have big boobs and belly although my arms and legs are fine. I'm also tall which makes it even harder to find stuff because most jogging bottoms are too short. I'd ideally like something that will bee fairly cool (shorts would be good) but NOT CLINGY. I can't find anything that fits my criteria at all, but I'm hoping some of you might be able to point me in the right direction.

Oh, and I walk about 20 mins each way to get to the gym, so while I don't care too much what I look like in the gym itself because everyone is doing the same thing and looks much the same, I don't want to be walking home past kids I teach in the grotty old leggings and oversize tshirt that I'm currently wearing.

I wear cropped joggies and a exercise top. I used to wear mens tops from Sports Direct but ended up getting a few feminine ones from JD Williams/Simply Be instead.

I'm not sure about tops, but for your legs:
skort
loose fitting capris
is M&D long legged stuff long enough?
If you can possible bare it, I can't recomend 3/4 tight fitting sports leggings enough something like these really does hold everything in and with a baggy teeshirt it would hide most of the bits you don't like.

I would't spend very much on anything other than the bra, and maybe some trainers.

Good bra. Good trainers. Beyond that whatever feels best. H&M do reasonable light workout gear which isn't too expensive?

If you can bear snug shorts or capris in the gym, then just pop some jogging bottoms and a hoody over walk to and from the gym.

You'll need them in the next few Weeks anyway.

wear whatever you are comfortable in. Nothing else apart a good bra and comfortable shoes is important.

However, I find that if I wear sleeveless then I get chafing under my arms when I get a bit sweaty and any tops I wear tend to ride up so I buy them as long as possible. Avoid things with seams/ labels that are in places that might rub....

I've also heard good things from someone in my classes about Taking Shape's 'active wear' Grin

Thanks for all these suggestions. I've got a really good bra, and I have trainers but I'm not sure how good they are, they're from Clark's children's dept Blush

I like the look of the skort or I could probably bring myself to wear shorts for the gym then pop something over the top to walk home. I have been wearing leggings and a top that used to be big and baggy but sadly it's not baggy any more and it rides up Sad
