How do I use dry shampoo?

Without looking like Morticia?
I have mid to dark brown hair, I bought a dry shampoo for brown hair, I spray it on then brush it through, but it doesn't look great. Any advice would be greatfully received.

I never had much luck with them. Once I put in so much powder that I realised as I was sitting at my desk at my new job that my shoulders and back were covered in powder Blush. I gave up after that and wash my hair every day instead

Which brand are you using?
I've bought various brands and the only one I think is any good is "Batiste" - others leave my hair looking horrible. I don't use the coloured versions though - the uncoloured version goes transparent on contact with grease or moisture so if you are get a Morticia effect you are just using too much.

I turn my head upside-down as far as possible and brush so it's all hanging down, spray into the roots then brush it all through to spread it throughout my hair more evenly. If I go overboard on the spraying and can see some white, a light touch with a very-slightly-damp flannel gets rid of it.

I spray, then leave it for a minute.
Then brush sort of upwards, for volume. Works for me that way

Only Batiste is any good. The brown one works pretty well on roots just don't touch your hair for the rest of the day. With the uncoloured one, I tend to put it on the night before if I know I won't have time to wash my hair in the morning.

I wouldn't brush it tbh, clean dry fingers are the best for working it through your roots.

Hold Batiste a good arms length from your hair and blast your roots. Give it a shake and a quick massage through.

I spray it on the night before, sleep in it and it's grease free and no white shite in the morning.

There are dry shampoos that don't have that are completely transparent and don't leave that powder in the hair.

I have just ordered one from Kerastase (waiting for it to be delivered), but Sexy Hair also makes one that's supposed to be good.

I'm personally not keen on Batiste (the powder is so visible, especially if also using hair spray, and it makes my scalp itch), and I really don't like Ojon (smells awful, spray stops working after a few uses and it isn't worth the money).
Klorane is good, but you need to brush the hair properly after.

I only use a little bit where needed, never in the lengths of the hair.

I also do what WestEast does and spray it on the night before. It's the only way any dry shampoo (I've tried a lot Grin) works for me.

I think you need to shake the can well too - I failed to do so the other night when using Batiste brown, and ended up with a glorious Mallen streak (if you're old enough to get the reference..) and no time to wash it out. Proceed with caution.
