Hi all feeling desperate today. Have 3 children under 6 and with each I lost a lot of hair after as u do. But my youngest is just turning2 and I still lose loads in the shower and it's feeling so thin now. I'm still breastfeeding although would like to wean. Is there anything I can do to prevent it? Or help it thicken up? It's recently been cut to around shoulder length and I have highlights around every couple of months.

I would go to your GP. A number of things can cause hair loss and it is worth getting a referral to check the reasons. It is probably linked to hormones/breastfeeding, but it is worth checking that it isn't anything else.

I had the same issue, and you need to go to the go and get some blood tests. I ended up seeing a tricholigist privately and they gave me drops for my scalp that did improve things. But I think the protein and iron supplements made the most difference.

Thanks for replies-hate reminded me I am supposed to be going for some blood tests anyway so I'll mention this also. It's not so bad that I have bald patches(yet)!! But I'd love it to be thicker. Definitely need to wean the not so little one now. And hadn't thought how important the supplements might be will try and remember to take them! Will it thicken up though again does anyone know? Or just slow the loss?

Mine thickened a bit but it isn't the same as before. I was starting to get bald patches at the front and they are filling in. However, I tend to find that it goes in cycles. It grows thicker for a few months then thins out again...although I'm not sure if this is typical or not.

Iron supplements helped me but it took a long time. Can you get some clip in extensions to thicken it up a bit? I use them on bad hair days, just a couple the same length as my hair.

This is happening to me too - in the shower today I was picking out huge clumps of hair which isn't normal for me.

What supplements do people take that work?

HolyQuadrityDrinkFeckArseGirls · 06/09/2014 15:15

In my case it is due to
Low iron levels. My go can prescribe a strong dose and the otc products are never as strong. I used to be on ferritin, levels built up, was told to switch to normal supplements and my hair started falling out again after a month.

Blood tests done again and iron low again. So back on gp prescribed iron.

Definitely see your GP for any underlying issues but also think about using a shampoo with no sodium laureth sulphate in. The SLS can make your hair thin and fall out. Boots NAKED do an inexpensive version.

I find that LOreal shampoo and conditioner for "fragile hair prone to fall " (black and pink packaging) really makes a big difference

I have this too. I also get spots in my scalp. I went to GP on Wednesday and I have a blood test next Monday. I think you should go to your GP. Mine thinks it's thyroid or autoimmune.
