WTAF do I wear? I've just googled as I have no idea and there were thousands of photos of impossibly beautiful and glamorous people in authentic looking outfits.

I am almost middleaged and a size 16/18. I don't live anywhere near a vintage shop, and even if I did I don't think people came in my size in those days

has anyone got any suggestions? I would be so grateful for some inspiration

Two great vintage shops in chichester, get a hairdressers appointment for the morning. Most vintage clothes are cut smaller so beware the sizing is not what you are used to. Try chichester vintage or the one legged jockey! Or there is the internet,

Where are you?

What's your budget?

A 40s style suit like this and a fur stole would work well! but there's not that much time.

Which era do you like? If it's 60s-70s, I may be able to help.

i have this dress in black that I was about to find another home for. size 16 i think. can check if you're interested.

you can totally work the goodwood look at any size or age.

i'm jealous.

Ooo answers, thank you

I've had a hit of an eBay rummage. Do you guys think this is 40s ish?

With a hat like this? Or am I mixing my eras?

I did have a look at real fur stoles

I live near bath, and there's the vintage market there on Sunday so I might make a trip

I LOVE that suit but it's a bit spendy for a one off

I'm in the wilds of Wiltshire, budget, well as little as possible. I also have to kit out reluctant dh and two dc. I think DS can wear school shorts and a cap. Dd is 3, no idea what little girls wore

I think I prefer 40s to 60s. Well in my mind where I look svelte and glamorous in do

nevergoogle how kind you are. Being excessively norky I fear the high neck sleeveless look, perhaps irrationally? I dunno. Stylish i ain't

it's a pretty flattering shape. i wore it with a cardi though.

tethersend · 04/09/2014 18:54

The outfit you picked could work, it's very 1930s- but make sure you've got something to keep you warm. No point sourcing a vintage outfit and covering it with a hoody Grin

I'll keep looking.

Vintage fair a great plan- otherwise have a look on Collectif for some repro stuff.

tethersend · 04/09/2014 18:56

this suit would work well with a fur stole and a hat with a feather in it.

SWIMTHECHANNEL · 04/09/2014 20:31

There are often twenties type dresses in evening wear sections ...

Milmingebag · 04/09/2014 20:42

With your figure I'd go 1950's. There are loads of Rockabilly dresses around online. Top with a cropped cardigan.

Leo35 · 04/09/2014 21:46

Try Lindybop - they have 40s and 50s styles. Their prices are not too extravagant.

Are you handy with the sewing machine, could you make a dress for one of your daughters?

Retro Daisy are located in nearby Worthing and also have a website. They do beautiful dresses very flattering for the fuller figure. They'll be doing lots of outfits for Goodwood.

If you have no luck at the vintage fair, go repro:
Don't know what delivery is like on these but if you want a casual look, look at Freddies of Pinewood jeans and a top. Accessorise with a headscarf/snood and a big flower.

Otherwise look at 20th Century Foxy, Vivien of Holloway, Tara Starlet, Collectif, Miss Bamboo...
