Is it just me or is YSL touché éclat foundation really shit?

I was a bobbi brown devotee for years, I have pale yet VERY yellow toned skin and religiously wore Bobbi Brown long wear foundation in shade warm sand with Bobbi Brown pale yellow powder on top. It was fab. Then it stopped staying on my skin and I realised (2 DDs later) how exhausted I looked. YSL touché éclat was recommended to me for a 'glow'. It is shit! It's so sheer I need 3 layers just to get a reasonable coverage, it still isn't even close to enough! It fades after 2 hours of applying it (I use smashbox primer before applying it) and sticks to dry patches. I don't look at all glowy, just shiny with dry patches Confused. Am I alone in thinking it's really shit? I adore touché éclat concealer but the foundation is terrible. I have tried Clarins Everlasting foundation in the past and LOVED the finish but my skin was a lot darker then as I had spent the summer in Vegas, does the range include pale yet yellow toned shades? Sorry if this was a rant but I'm hugely disappointed by YSL!

I don't like it either, emphasises every pore and dry patches I didn't even know I had.

Have you tried Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturising Foundation? This is my favourite, applied with the Real Techniques stippling brush.

LoafersOrLouboutins · 03/09/2014 13:47

I use the real techniques stippling brush too! Bobbi brown luminous moisturising foundation sounds good, how much coverage does it give? How long does it stay on the gas for? YSL seemed to enlarge the pores around my nose Hmm

I like the ysl but I love it because it is so sheer - I don't want a pancake face. I put clarins beauty flash balm underneath and don't find it is shiny, dry or pore-enhancing. You only need a teeny tiny bit of it, though - too much and it looks horrible.

Perhaps that's where you're going wrong and you just need something thicker rather than applying multiple layers of the touche éclat?

LoafersOrLouboutins · 03/09/2014 13:57

I think that's the problem- YSL doesn't meet my needs. For those blessed with good skin so only need a light coverage it probably is quite good. I definitely need thick and heavy coverage now. Any suggestions for full coverage foundations with yellow tones are very welcome!

Yes each application I use about a third of the last foundation I had - you need just the smallest amount. I've had the bottle for a couple of years (only wear foundation for special occasions but still).

I had a chantecaille foundation before which was nice but way too heavy for me - perhaps that would work?

Only1scoop · 03/09/2014 14:03

I totally love it....but because I find it covers really sheer and I like a nice light coverage. It's certainly not a hardcore foundation.

Only1scoop · 03/09/2014 14:06

How about lancome teint idole....

Or their new one

Estee Lauder Double Wear.
Clarins Everlasting in 103 might work for you. I find the foundation oxidises massively and it wears badly, but that might just be me.

I don't personally think that thick and heavy helps anyone look less exhausted. I'd instead suggest a light-medium coverage foundation and concealing the bad areas.
I like Diorskin Nude. They have a range with warm undertones, one with neutral undertones and cool undertones. I use 010 and 020 which are neutral.

The YSL one is very sheer and probably not great for your skin type - it sounds a bit like you have oily skin, and YSL is better for normal/dry skin afaik.

I always wear blusher and highlighter to add some life and colour back - and that's even when using a sheerer foundation. It really makes a massive difference.

Before you buy a foundation, make sure you get a sample that you can try at home on top of your usual products so you can see if it works for you.

I like sheer too sometimes but YSL just seems to sit on top of my skin. I would say the Bobbi Luminous is medium, but buildable, cover.

LoafersOrLouboutins · 03/09/2014 14:56

I'm going to ask for a sample of clarins everlasting in 103 :) and a sample of bobbi brown. I use blusher and concealer too but it's SO tempting to plaster a full mask of foundation on. Does double wear live up to the hype?

I love double wear !

I normally wear a mineral foundation powder but on bad skin days only double wear covers & I always get told how well I look when I use it , i don't even think about trying any others now after wasting so much money in the past .

For me the best foundation is Georgio Armani Luminous Silk. Another great foundation for a fraction of the price is Rimmel Wake Me Up.

She shows all the shades and describes them too.

Familyguyfan · 03/09/2014 17:47

I like it because it is so sheer as a pp mentioned. My mum however (very cool and great looking, not a bag lady in case you were wondering) swears by Bobbi Brown despite trying lots of others.

plentyofshoes · 03/09/2014 18:41

Clinique perhaps? It stays put on me.
