Getting a grip! Welcome to the September No Spend/ Low Spend S&B challenge

Laska42 · 31/08/2014 17:32

Welcome to the continuing NO Spend/ Low spend clothes challenge for September.

A huge Well Done to all who stayed with us for August. We had some great no spend results, even if we didn’t all make it, (Oops Laska Blush) but we all learnt what our triggers are and we all spent less.

So, a definite success; and now it’s time to sign up and pledge to get a grip in September.

And a big welcome to old and new S&B obsessed MNers - who just can’t stop buying it all - to join us in our quest to get a grip.

So, what’s it all about?

We all LOVE new clothes, but are short on the willpower to resist, and quite frankly its getting too much ..

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterly and totally rammed... a lot of us did make an effort to get rid of some of it last month, (though, come on, we probably do have more we can shift Wink).

We have piles of clothes and shoes we've even forgotten we have, (some with the labels’ still onBlush) .

And it’s a new season -Danger Time-.

But we want to get back into control and wear the lovely things we have and stop being a slave to every new catalogue, website and blog ..

We want to resist the sales and offers and we want our friends and neighbours to know us better than the postmen and the local couriers !

We know they want us to buy into their new lifestyle looks , but we are stronger than them.
-Throw out your catalogues as they arrive!
-Unsubscribe to online shops!

-And let’s get creative and stay stylish without spending even more £££s and without adding to the piles of unused stuff we already have...

So here we go again...

Some Rules
Either commit to No Spend or to a set budget.
Exceptions to No Spend are tights, underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinely worn out.
Last month we decided that if we did get something then a One in One out policy was a good idea

Lets help each other kick this habit!

We know its hard and we will have to continue to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in again? Smile

Nope, I don't get bags either. I have four - tiny camera bag style Hobbs one, slightly bigger one, and two tote bags (one of which is leather and therefore too heavy to be of any real use).

autumnsmum · 31/08/2014 21:11

Hi can I join ? I failed dismally this month, why did I buy two more cardigans ? But I now need nothing for autumn and need to stop

MrsEboJones76 · 31/08/2014 21:23

Hello again.
This month I'm setting a budget of £100 or less. I intend to stick the last of my clear out on ebay.

Got home from work on Friday and DH alerted me to 2 AW catalogues that arrived in the post. He looked stunned when I told him to toss them both in the bin unopened ;)
I was out on Saturday and bought a tiny leather across body bag in White Stuff with a discount code. Spent just over £25. Almost bought a scarf but put it back.
Was out Saturday night and pleased to report I wore a shirt dress and heels from my existing wardrobe instead of using it as an excuse for a new outfit.

I am really thinking about what I buy. You are all an excellent influence on me........!

goingloombandcrazy · 31/08/2014 22:10

Hi guyscan I join in?

I don't really buy clothes but aimimg for a no spend on toiletries til Xmas except hand wash and toothpaste!

Greengardenpixie · 31/08/2014 23:10

Hello :) just checking in before bed!! Just spending a budget starting from next month after i get paid. No plans to spend any money atm anyway!! but just feel i need to start. It will be a small budget tbh.

Apatite1 · 31/08/2014 23:22

I failed last month by buying 3 scarves, but they were very bargainaceous. I'm in for a low spend (under £100) but I'll try not to buy anything until the post christmas sales anyway. The one thing I'll make an exception is for a down coat if the winter is very cold (no idea if it will be, it's still very sunny and warm here still!)

Greengardenpixie · 31/08/2014 23:59

I love boots too.....not so fussed over shoes and just dont get the jimmy choo shoe thing at all. Someone in my work spent a ton of money on a pair and they are really not my thing at all. I dont like pointy shoes. I dont get the pointy shoe thing. Never like them. I do biker boots and clumpy shoes tbh. Its my thing.
And then there are clothes...mmm...what can i say? I bloody love buying clothes!! They make me feel good and i dont need to iron...well for a day!!!
Its always a bonus..unless it comes immensly creased. But on a budget spend for me now..and preferably a no spend tbh...but i broke promises on my last thread so that is that.
Bags, yeh, i do like them. I have lots...and atm i have a thing for a large shopper or tote but i have one already [no surprises there then]
On the boot front..i still haven worn my ludicrously expensive ones yet...but i will....im never wearing the right thing atm and i keep forgetting i have them!!!!

Morning everyone.

This blog was linked on the last thread and I think it is a useful one:
Recovering Shopaholic blog

I also found this webpage (linked from blog above) with lots of useful advice:
here

I need to have a think about the barriers to put in place to shopping and what to do instead.

Have a busy day planned with DS today before he starts school tomorrow so signing off now.

cardamomginger · 01/09/2014 09:04

I am DEFINITELY in!!! I need to clear my credit card instead. I nearly bought a handbag from The Outnet over the weekend and just managed to stop myself. I have so much stuff I don't wear or use and I'm starting to make much more of an effort. So instead of the new handbag, I dusted off one which hadn't seen the light of day for years, and am using that instead.

I've found some stuff I genuinely no longer want and have listed it on Ebay. Need to stay firm in my resolve to use any money I make on paying off the credit card, and NOT on buying more stuff.

Help me stay firm in my resolve ladies!!!

PrimalLass · 01/09/2014 09:15

I'm in. I did OK-ish in August, but bought something for a night out (as I pledged at the start) and still have to take things back (Wednesday). I also accidentally bought a Clinique sonic face brush thingy. But that's not clothes Grin

My budget is £70 for a bag, but only if I make £400 on ebay first.

luckygirl322 · 01/09/2014 10:43

I'm in again. I did pretty well last month-only buying a couple necklaces and one top-much better than my usual.

I want a Boden scarf in the Westminster print-that's all I'm planning on buying if it shows up on their website.

dawndonnaagain · 01/09/2014 10:47

Okay, won the ebay top, I will chuck out/ebay/charity shop something when it arrives. I had a clear out earlier in the summer and still my wardbrobe groans under the weight, along with a very large chest of drawers. I guess folk are right, a further clearout is required! I have also purchased much needed foundation, but that's it now. No more this month. I don't need winter shoes, boots or coats so nothing in that direction until the sales, although I do lust after the Boden moleskin duffle, just can't until I'm at least an 18.

ShoopShoop · 01/09/2014 10:48

I'm in. I have so many clothes with the labels still on - saved for when I lose the 2 stone I've been meaning to lose for the last year. Well, I'm dieting now and cannot wait to wear them. I want a month off buying anything new.

I need to admit now that I have a Toast dress and two Hush dresses already winging their way to me that I bought last week.....but that's it, I promise!!

AngieM2 · 01/09/2014 11:42

I'm in, and new to the thread. I have a pair of ankle boots arriving any day (ordered last week so they don't count) and I will need a Lancome mascara this month but thats it. Off to New York end of October so I'm not buying anything til then (huge challenge)

Laska42 · 01/09/2014 18:06

Oh boy, is it only September 1st?

I have bought 2 pairs of knee length leggings (1 black and 1 navy) Johnnie B as they are best length for me and i got 20% off .. but I'm counting them as essential underwear/tights as this means I can wear my summer dresses a bit longer to work.. ..

BTW its not in the OP but SOCKS are also allowed, ..

BUT.. I was so nearly tempted (put them in the basket and almost hit checkout and pay Blush) on a pair of grey clarks boots with 35% off (voucher and and quidco..). See what reading S&B threads does to you ?

I didnt though, remembered what im doing .. I have boots... . I dont actually need grey ones , (oh, but i do want them.. I still am tempted actually )

Laska42 · 01/09/2014 19:09

Laska42 · 01/09/2014 20:29

cardigal · 01/09/2014 20:52

I'm disappointed frankly Hmm

cardigal · 01/09/2014 20:53

Laska42 · 01/09/2014 20:58
