I really am clueless - I wear the same stuff (jeans, black vest , black cardi all the time)

Am in need of help and inspiration!

BTW I am 5 ft 9' tall and a size 16

TIA :)

juicy tracksuits and ugg boots innit?

AggressiveBunting · 29/08/2014 07:15

I'm actually thinking of having a longish black vest tattooed on. It would save valuable minutes when getting dressed on non-work days Grin so I can help you with tops.

I wear GAP "Broken in straight" chinos in various colours - size down or they look mumsy as they give a fair bit- with said vest for a more summery look. I've also started wearing black slim pants with a slight crop for a smarter look (John Lewis sell tonnes). I find that front zipped work best but depends on your shape. Don't go too cropped though or makes your thighs look chunky.

Erm...You might get more helpful answers if you relaunch your OP minus the, 'Yummy Mummies' thing. I'm 44 and would love to talk clothes with you, but I don't wish to be seen as either 'yummy' or a 'mummy' tbh.

leedy · 29/08/2014 11:35

I can do 42 year old vaguely scruffy mother if you like? (I am definitely not a yummy mummy)

Summer clothing rut: just above knee-length denim skirt, one of approx 8 million short sleeved breton tops/occasional not-stripy t-shirt, Birkenstocks.

Winter clothing rut: skinny jeans/ankle boots or shorter denim skirt (longer ones look frumpy with tights on me)/tights/chunky boots, one of approx 8 million long sleeved Breton tops, cashmere v neck cardis in various colours.

Hmm, that wasn't very inspirational, was it? Most of clothes from Boden ( middle class mum cliche ahoy), Gap, All Saints, J Brand for jeans and occasional posh t-shirt splurge from APC/posh jumper splurge from Eric Bompard/Chinti & Parker.

Well I'm nearly 40 and a SAHM. Not rich enough to be a Yummy Mummy sadly but I tend to live in gym wear.

RonaldMcDonald · 29/08/2014 11:40

dunno I'm a scummy slummy glummy mummy

acne and zara today as you've asked though

UriGeller · 29/08/2014 11:45

Various merch stand tshirts. Black skinny jeans. Stripy socks and flip flops. Black beanie. Currently rocking a large Phil&ted double navigator as accessory.

I'm 43 and won't change now. More of a "Bum Mum" than a "yummy Mummy"

MaryWestmacott · 29/08/2014 12:11

The uniform around these parts now the weather has taken a turn seems to be skinny jeans, long sleeved boat neck t-shirt in a variety of colours, converse or flat ankle boots and a scarf.

I am going to try to rebel against this very prescriptive way of dressing myself this autumn, so am looking for ideas while only having about £3.50 budget...

If you want to be a true yummy mummy I would suggest copious draping. You can always tell people with money as they tend to have expensive shoes and handbag and be swathed in fabric about their torso.

leedy · 29/08/2014 13:05

attaches sixteen tatty muslins to t-shirt, looks hopeful

Oriunda · 05/09/2014 07:33

Slummy mummy here but trying to dress a bit smarter. I have recently bought Me & Em and Plumo in the sale. Previously Hush but going off their stuff.

madamemuddle · 05/09/2014 07:52

I'm a smug married (not a slummy mummy).

Moving into autumn I am wearing...
Skinny jeans
Knee length brown boots
Slouchy cable knit White Stuff jumper with short sleeves and stretchy long sleeve t-shirt underneath
Across body bag
Long chunky necklace and/or scrarf

I find a multitude of necklaces and scarves and plain clothes a good start...

I am coveting beautiful leather skirts this year. Have one black one already from atterley road, but would like another slightly longer black one with discreet slits, from all saints. Also want a burgundy one from baukjen and a navy one which I haven't come across yet. Don't know where the extra £600 or so is going to come from, though.

Have got loads of pairs of boots, mostly with a heel and mid calf length. But it looks like I will need to get at least one ankle boot as they are trendy just now. Probably from all saints or mint velvet. Already bought two pairs of timberland Chelsea boots which I like to wear for comfort (heel is only about 5cm) and ease of wearing (casual but still look smart) but I suppose some might call them mum boots.

Lots of becksondergaard scarves to wear this A/W - bought four or five in the sales and have got my eyes on another one.

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 08:17

Am going to trawl charity shops for jackets and coats this autumn. Have lost a lot of weight so none of my old stuff fits me. Need some denim jackets and maybe a blazer or two.

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 08:19

Sigh so many clothes I need - yes I said 'need' - to buy. If only I had the budget to match my tastes... Smile

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 08:22

Oh I'm looking at mustard, teal and black along with navy and burgundy, for a/w.

Sleepwhenidie · 05/09/2014 08:24

Holger you might find it more practical to get a second one of those ankle boots...you know, to balance the look? Grin Wink

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 08:31

Heheh I did think that when I wrote it but I was too lazy to change it!

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 09:06

Oh oops I didn't notice it said early 40s.. Don't suppose it matters that i am a shade younger than that?

Bought a lovely navy jacket from hobbs (in the sale, woohoo!) that I have had so much wear out of already.

Really want a khaki nail varnish.

GlaceCherries · 05/09/2014 09:08

Holger how about this cheap and cheerful Zara navy pleather skirt? Not too plastic-y I thought, great at that price!

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 09:15

Oh I do like that! Not the right shade as far as burgundy is concerned, but the sand/camel/whatever that colour is, is very nice.

Thanks Smile
