Hi there I am getting married this weekend and need some help with my makeup. I don't tend to wear much but I have stocked up on bits after watching some tutorials on YouTube. I have combination skin but have a few spots under my skin at the moment. I have blue eyes and brown hair and would like a glowing look but not too heavy. My problem is staying power with my makeup, I put it on and within a couple of hours it looks like it's all come off.

Could anybody help me please.

Thank you.

Congrats :)

Do you use primer, both for your face & for your eyes?

Bellenddingdong · 26/08/2014 15:47

Yes I do and bb cream mixed with foundation.

can you pop and get it done at a make up counter this week to get some real life tips relating to your skin? i definitely second primer and powder and spray some hairspray in a cloud and walk through it once make up is done (it just sets it)

I did my own wedding makeup and heartily recommend it! The makeup trials I had were too much, they made me look artificial (and feel self-conscious). I wanted to look prettier than normal but as natural as possible. If you buy good quality makeup and practice with it beforehand, it'll be a doddle on the day, and much cheaper than hiring someone to do it for you.

I have a completely different colouring to you, so I won't make any colour recommendations. The steps I used were:

  1. Wash face and dry (Clinique liquid facial soap)
  2. Moisturise (Clinique dramatically different moisturising lotion) - let this settle 5 mins
  3. Primer (Revlon photoready)**
  4. Eye cream (Bobbi Brown)
  5. Tiny dabs of concealer over small blemishes (Estee Lauder smoothing creme concealer)
  6. Foundation (Clinique even better)
  7. Powder (Clinique loose powder)**
  8. Pluck, then darken eyebrows (Bobbi Brown brow kit, brow brush, followed by a pencil for gaps)
  9. Mascara (Bobbi Brown waterproof mascara)
10. Eyeliner (can't remember which brand) 11. Eye shadow (can't remember which brand, I used a subtle bronze colour with pale peachy highlights) 12. Lip balm if your lips are dry 13. Lip liner* and lipstick (both Chanel) - blot and reapply as many times as you can bear* 14. Blusher (Chanel, same colour as lipstick and lip liner)

The steps marked with ** are those that make the makeup last longer.

It sounds like a lot, but I practiced quite a lot before the big day, and in the end I did the whole thing in 30 minutes.

Oh, and ask your bridesmaid to carry the powder and lipstick for you so you can touch up during the day :)

Congratulations and have an amazing time at your wedding :)

Use primer. Benefit Porefection is good. Bourjois and loreal have similar ones.
Benefit also have Stay Don't Stray eye primer.

Use concealer before foundation.

Use a foundation brush. Put foundation on back of hand, dab brush in it and use downward strokes over your t zone. Dapple it iykwim. Go lightly over cheeks. Use fingers for any blending.

Use cereal blusher then fix with powder blusher. Pop some powder blusher in your handbag for top ups.

Use fixing spray. Collection 2000 do a great one.

Keep your lipstick to hand for top ups.

I used body shop blotting papers during the day before touching up blusher and lippy.

Congratulations and have a fab day!

Cream blusher! Not cereal blusher Smile

Thank you ladies this is helping. I don't have much time before hand to get any kind of lessons and don't have time on the day for anybody to come and do it. I am popping into boots tomorrow so I will see what they have in.

No idea if this is true but I read somewhere that if you are getting lots of photos taken not to use a foundation with SPF as it can make your face look white in the pics. Might be worth testing before the day. Good luck :)
