Hello lovely ladies - I know there was a long hairloss thread but I can't find it again, I need your collective wisdom. I am suffering significant thinning of my hair since having it in 7 months ago and am in a dilemma. It's not so noticeable yet as I had v thick hair but I have prob lost about half of it (all over not patches) and I'm starting to worry it won't slow down or stop.

It's my last form of contraception available for medical reasons other than the copper coil, so I want to see if I can do anything to help stop this side effect (it's the only one). So I desperately need your wisdom!

My GP says it's hormone related so I'm going to take mega strength EPO to give me an oestrogen boost, and Floradix to up my iron and Bvits which may help.

Can anyone give me some other ideas/solutions for treatments that will help? I am willing to try anything at this point! Only going to give the coil another 6 weeks before I get it pulled because I can't continue with this rate of hairloss.

thanks ladies

I alos had significant hair loss and had no luck with my GP helping so I saw another and had results. It turned out that i was anaemic and also had a thyroid problem, my initial GP said everything was fine after a blood test, but 4 weeks later and a different GP I needed medication. Problem was then fixed.

Though hairless can also be stress related, which is a shame as from personal experience you stress more seeing it come out every day!

I hope that helps a little.

From what I know mirena sort of puts your body in a state similar to menopause so that causes the hair loss.

ok so I guess taking the natural plant oestrogens should help a lot then? as well as iron supplements?

It makes sense.
Hope it does.

I will try it out and report back in case anyone else is having the same problem! Anyone have any idea how long it might take to see an improvement?

At least a couple of months or so. Seems to be with all supplements.

I've had a lot of hair loss/thinning/brittleness since starting HRT a year ago. I was told by a specialist that it's female pattern hair loss and that hair loss is also a side-effect of HRT (albeit an unusual one ), but she suggested iron supplements (as blood tests showed they were too low to support hair growth and vit D supplements as that was very low too.) In addition I've added Vit B12, Silica tabs and biotin 2 x 1000mg daily and the shedding is starting to slow down quite a lot recently. I was getting very very low about it and had reached the point of seriously thinking of wearing headscarves but it certainly is better than it was. I've been taking all the supplements for about 9 months now.

Certainly worth blood tests to see what your thyroid, iron levels etc are up to. And while I don't know how much the silica, b12 and biotin are helping, I figure they probably can't do too much harm.

good luck melted, I hope you see good results long term. I've just bought some Forcapil as well as the OEP and Floradix... hoping that something works!!
