Boots that grip

I know it's still technically summer, but I'm trying to get organised this year as I always leave autumn/winter clothing far too late and then everything's gone.

I really need some good boots for winter that will do me through autumn as well, but will grip. I spend a lot of winter slipping and sliding all over the place and I've got a bad back this year, and really don't want to risk damaging it further. Where we live is quite hilly, so this happens a lot.

Can anyone recommend anything that will help stop me falling over? I've got Yaktrax for when the snow/ice comes, but you can't use those on just pavement.

Thank you!

you need some proper walking boots/shoes; nothing sold for 'fashion'. Grip on ice is always difficult but decent shoes should grip on mud.

I bought Vagabond boots last week. They have good grip. So many boots i tried on before these had smooth soles which are so dangerous in Winter. As i dont drive i thought no way. These seem very grippy.

Sebagos - any cleated sole style, like Saranac. Waterproof, too!

DMs. I'm quite unstable but find that these hold me up beautifully and don't slip in winter. I add yaktrax when there's snow.

Thanks for these suggestions, all very helpful! I'll check out these suggestions - although I've had DM boots before (not the traditional ones, so maybe these are the kind you mean) and they were like ice skates!

Anyone got any more?

You could look at continental brands such as Josef Seibel and Reiker or Ecco.
Not all styles cutting-edge fashion, however, to put it mildly.
And not all styles suitable for properly bad conditions.

What about Kickers? Or are they fashion suicide?

In some areas, Dubarry-type high boots seem fashionable, though I think they can be very unflattering. Their soles look grippy, but have not tried them myself.

You could also look at online/real-life shops for huntin'-shootin'-fishin'-farmin'-types. They sell boots for people who work out of doors. On other threads, posters have recommended Fife Country, for example, and I would agree.

Fly London boots are fantastic for looking stylish but having fantastic grip. I have two pairs and have survived walking through snow and ice without a fall. They aren't waterproof so I have sometimes had cold and wet feet.

Fly London Mol and Mes are my favourites. They're expensive but it's possible to get them for much cheaper on discount sites and ebay.
