I am thinking of buying these earl maternity jeans and wondered if anyone had ever bought any and you thought they were worth the money.

I'm not tight when it comes to clothes.. gina, dkny etc but there is no way I would spend £150 on a pair of maternity jeans... especially ones that I hadnt tried on. I know everyone wants to look their best but we all know that some cheaper jeans can look nicer than some expensive ones... xxx

Do you have a TK maxx near you ? I think I've seen Earl maternity there the odd time; certainly the maternity cords.

I used to use Formes a lot for the pricier end of the market, but don't think I ever spent as much as that on jeans tbh.

Thanks for advice. Found it impossible to find maternity jeans that fitted me last time (i am a small size 8) and was told that Earl are good for small pregnant ladies. I wear jeans a lot and will be pregnant during the winter so thought I would invest. Good point about trying on - perhaps I need to find a shop which sells them.

check out h&m maternity - I got some good trousers & skirts here. Can't believe the price of earl jeans!

Also, beware the underbump jean! I invested in a pair of moderately expensive ones (not Earl, some European brand), and they never, ever actually stayed up, even when I started getting big. I ended up buying a much cheaper pair from Blooming Marvellous, with a big elastic waist, which actually do the job (honestly, I was walking down the street with one hand permanently holding on to my waistband, it was ridiculous!). So not only try them on, but go for a good walk up and down the shop to be sure...

And I hear that Top Shop are good for smaller sizes as well, so might be worth a look .

Good idea I will try topshop - didn't look last time as they did not have maternity range locally at that stage.

Incy,

You've probably bought your jeans by now. But I had some Earl Jeans maternity jeans and they worked really well for me until I was about 6 months pregnant. I still wear them when I am feeling bloated, fat or planning to go out for a big meal .

CurrantBun · 25/10/2006 14:28

TopShop may be supposed to be good for smaller sizes, but when I went there at the weekend they only had two pairs of size 6 trousers in the whole store - one in a 34" length and the other a 32". Tried to order a pair of their black trousers online in a 30" length and just got an 'out of stock' message. Rang them up and they had no idea when they would be getting any more.

Not impressed.

Incy, I bought Earl maternity jeans from ebay for £30ish and I'm so pleased I did - I'm normally a size 8 and they managed to cope with the swell really well until the last month when the waste band dug in a bit - but TBH at that stage most items of clothing dug in a bit! I had dd2 last tuesday and while I can't wait to get back into normal clothes at least I have some normalish looking jeans for the meantime

incy · 25/10/2006 16:10

unhallowed and mamadoo - Sadly I tried a pair of Earl maternity jeans and they looked awful on me (I am a funny shape whilst pregnant!)Have ordered some seven maternity jeans from USA (e bay) as they are just normal sevens with a pregnancy band sewn in so should fit. Thanks for your help.

I wear 7's and Earl when not pregnant and love their fit
But have tried their maternity and they simply slip down.
I'd recommend seraphine, classy but more reasonably priced than EArls and 7's, great fit and nice looking.

incy · 25/10/2006 16:21

Thanks Piffle I will have a look.

definitely worth trying maternity jeans on - they are tricky to get right ime

if you're in london my friend has a great shop and she could advise?

incy · 25/10/2006 16:39

Thanks Tutter but I am in Southampton (not a style capital)

i bought the earl maternity jeans and they were fab. they did 2 of my pregnancies and my friend is wearing them for her 2nd now too! Think cost per wear!

however, they weren't great in the last 6 weeks when they did tend to push down, but i didn't regret paying the £ for them! i would still wear them now if i was feeling fat (if i can ever get them back from my pregnant friends that is)
