Best supplements/treatments/interventions for soft, splitting nails?

My nails (hands and feet) have deteriorated rapidly over past two years. No idea why. They are somehow both softer and more brittle, chip and split easily. I now have to keep them quite short, which I hate. I am late 30s.

I've tried a couple of mid-price topical nail oils, upped fish oil intake, but it hasn't really helped.

Any ideas, please?

I have mine done every 3 weeks with a gel nail varnish. This has helped my nails no end and as long as you don't pick it off it helps and strengthens your nails. I pay £20 for hands and £30 for hands and feet.

So not the type where once you start, you have to keep having it redone because your nails are damaged? Is UV the damaging one? Confused

I'd be nervous of being given the wrong type.

They are dried with uv yes but as long as you have them done at proper salon and taken off by them you get no problems. Mine are called gellish I'm sure you can look it up and see.

I had terrible, terrible problems with my nails for about a year - they were splitting non-stop and I was nearly at my wits end after trying everything (although I didn't do gel nails etc as I thought it was bad for your nails - so have no knowledge of Gellish as mentioned by Donkir).

In the end I started using Knox for Nails (a gelatin powder which comes in individual sachets - you mix it with water and drink it every day). My nails were amazing within a month or so. The only problem is that I don't know how you can buy it in the UK. I had to buy it on Amazon in the US and get a friend to bring it over. I was about to say that maybe just upping your intake of gelatin might work, but I've just read online that this is a myth. Whatever the case, Knox for Nails was simply amazing! See the reviews here:

Actually... I think it has changed names and there does seem to be a UK distributor: www.etalpure.co.uk/nutramix-for-strong-nails-orange-drink-mix-14-envelopes-natures-bounty?language=en&currency=GBP&gclid=CLi_rKSzqsACFWX3wgod-bQAXw

(fyi, contrary to the marketing claims, it is not in any way delicious!)

I'll give it a go. Thanks Smile
