Hi Mumsnet

I'm not a Mum or Dad but I do like having nice hair and a good friend of mine who regularly visits these forums recommended that I come here.
I'm a 31 year old guy growing my hair longer, it's still quite short atm but I want it to be in the best possible condition. I don't use any form of heat on it and I try to use decent products. I purchased Philip Kingsley Elasticizer because I've been told thats it's marvellous. I also purchased a Kerastase shampoo and Masque and Moroccanoil Treatment. Earlier today I tried these products and let my hair air dry but it wasn't as smooth as I'd hoped (my hair is quite thick) I've been thinking about what to do and I've decided I will use a leave in conditioner before applying the Moroccanoil Treatment. I went ahead and purchased "It's A Ten Miracle Leave-In Spray" off good old Amazon. I have to say, I don't think the Kerastase stuff is suited for my hair at all which is annoying because I purchased the 500ml of shampoo and a 200ml tub of the Mask, I hope I can sell it. I was thinking of buying the Moisture Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner by Philip Kingsley, has anyone tried it and/or have any other recommendations please? Truth be told, I'm a hair snob so nothing from Boots or anywhere like that. Thanks

I have thick dry hair and I tried PK Elasticizer on several occasions it did nothing. I used to buy expensive products but its the ingredients that count. I no longer use products that have silicones and SLS in them and that has made a huge difference to my hair. It is no longer as dry as it used to be. I currently use Alterna Bamboo Shampoo and Giovanni conditioners. My hair feels great. I also use coconut oil which is cheap but works well for deep conditioning. My hairdresser uses Davines products which I also recommend.

In my experience, and have heard the same from others, that PK Elasticizer really comes into it's own several applications in.

I found the first few times my hair was no different to usual, just a bit fluffier maybe but I persevere and on the fourth maybe fifth application I realised what all the hype was about.

I'd recommend persevering with that one at least.

ZaraW I tried the sulphate and silicone free for 6 months. I ended up with an itchy scalp most of the time and rough, dull hair. I went back to using sulphates and silicones and the difference was h immediate. After a few washes my scalp stopped itching and my hair is feeling noticeably smoother but I definitely feel like it could be smoother. Day 2 hair on day 1 would be nice if you see what I mean.

LadyLemongrab I agree, Elasticizer is designed for long term use so I will definitely keep on using it. Out of interest, how often do you wash you hair and how often do you use Elasticizer and how long do you leave it in for?

Moroccan Oil has a conditioning mask which comes in a tub, it´s great. You can use it alongside the oil. Their shampoo is also good.
