Operation Renovation: The last of the summer wine, and sorting out Autumn wardrobes

ControlGeek · 23/08/2014 18:13

Following on the heels of the previous renovation threads, this one will seal the deal on Summer and take us nicely into Autumn with a flurry of mn scarves and flashes of seasonal nail varnish.

As always, this thread is for all types of renovation - diet, hair, make-up, clothes, or simply finding ways to make more time for you.

The rules are simple, make a list of 10 things (or as many as you are comfortable with) you will do to start to work towards your renovation goal and decide how frequently you need to do these.

Orangey, I meant his dad has passed away. Dp's half way there on the train.

I'm here wandering aimlessly round the house until school pick up. We knew it'd be over the weekend...just didn't expect it today Sad

lucysmam · 12/09/2014 14:34

Thanks Control I'll be alright...keeping busy helps & then a well earned Wine after tucking the girls up tonight.

Are your braces irritating you? (I'd forgotten about them)

ControlGeek · 12/09/2014 14:42

I wish I could!! They are so sore, and one of my teeth appears to be completely out of alignment after the brace has moved it. I even started an AIBU about the little blighter.

Definitely have your well-earned Wine or two tonight. Will you and your dds get a chance to join dp this weekend?

lucysmam I'm so sorry. I hope I didn't cause offence. I read it for a second time and realised that I'd got the wrong end of the stick. Much love to you all. xx

lucysmam · 12/09/2014 14:58

It could be my typing Orangey as much as your reading of it tbh!

lucysmam · 12/09/2014 15:02

Control...no Wine?

Unfortunately we just can't afford the travel down there. Even the megabus that's about £30 for the entire journey is too much. We've had to borrow some of the train fare for dp from my dad after paying it all at the beginning of the week as well.

I'm just hoping dp is alright tonight down there.

ControlGeek · 12/09/2014 15:10

Oh lovely that's rotten, I'm so sorry Flowers

Helenagrace · 12/09/2014 18:14

Oh lucysmam I'm sorry. I will be thinking of you and your family.

NK5BM3 · 12/09/2014 21:22

Oh Lucy... Condolences... Sad

Hazchem · 12/09/2014 21:37

Lucysmam I'm so sorry. Thinking of you. In relation to cheap mascara I've foudn the boots collection 2000 (which looks likes it's been re branded to just collection) mascara very good, It's only 1.99. I can't help with foundation. Sorry.

Blondieminx · 12/09/2014 21:38

Ohh Lucysmam sorry to hear that Thanks condolences to your family. You're going great guns with your house sorting by the sounds of things x Hope it's helping take your mind off things. Ask if the DD's schools offer any bereavement counselling perhaps?

This weather is crazy. It was 9c here first thing, but 21c by lunchtime.

CallingAllEngels · 12/09/2014 22:02

So sorry to hear your news lucy x

lucysmam · 12/09/2014 22:27

I've derailed you all! Go back to rennovating and being beautiful!

(but thank you all for your kind words, it's very helpful to know I can offload on someone else!).

ControlGeek · 12/09/2014 22:33

lucysmam today, I have showered, put two hair masks on, dried and straightened my hair, tidied up my nails - and am still thinking loads about you and your family.

I'm having my hair trimmed tomorrow but need to rebook my bikini wax if I'm to get fully back on track.

OP posts:
lucysmam · 12/09/2014 22:36

Thankyou for the normal update (ish) Control. it actually made me Grin a little bit! Why two hair treatments?

ControlGeek · 12/09/2014 23:41

Because my hair is so awful that it actually take two lucysmam!!! One is a normal hair conditioner, the other is an intensive masque (not an ordinary 'mask' you understand - an expensive 'masque'!) Seriously, it takes that, plus hair drying, plus straightening with got2be heat treatment plus extraordinary oil just to get remotely tamed.

And I'm still thinking of you all and sending you all of my love xxx

If I do say so myself I looked very lovely last night! Straightened my hair for the first time in ages and did proper make-up.

Have guests this week (parents over from the uk) so will try and keep up good habits but probably no pamper evenings.

ememem84 · 13/09/2014 10:06

To update. The big day on Tuesday was more to do with eating porridge than anything else.

I'm sorry to hear all the sad news, hope everyone is ok and is looking after themselves/being looked after. X x

In the last week have walked to work every day. Have gym'ed 4 times. Have a riding lesson booked for this afternoon and yoga tomorrow morning.

1x glass of wine all week. Lots of water. Max 3 cups of tea a day.

Taken lunch to work every day. So saved about £25.

Skin is looking better, nails have been redone.

Today's outfit (once I get out of pjs) will be black skinnies grey vest and hot pink Tshirt with black n white leopard flats. To be replaced with boots when riding.

lucysmam · 13/09/2014 10:22

Morning all.

em I quite like porridge! & had I read your post would have gone for that this morning instead of the first box that I grabbed...Cheerio's...have to say I'm not keen.

Calling you did indeed look very lovely, fab dress! I know what you mean about needing a better social life so you get to dress up more often. I love dresses but none of mine are really wear through the day ones, they're more get dressed up to go out ones.

I've just been in the shower. Woke up with Wurzel Gummidge hair Confused . Have put on skinnies and my blue jumper, of course the weather's cheering up now - was freezing at 7am. No make up as yet. I'm toying with taking the girls to town for a wander maybe.

Scarves and hats are sitting next to the machine waiting for their turn to go in (kids uniforms in atm). I even found the kids stuff to put that through as well.

Best go dry my hair & crack on with something.

ememem84 · 13/09/2014 11:35

This mornings breakfast was one for champions. Pop tarts. And 2 cups of tea. Winner.

Am up and dressed now. Used up the last of an icky moisturiser and can finally tomorrow start using the pink grapefruit one I love (body shop). Have a fuckton of washing to do today. Sigh.

Need to work out how to stop cardigans going all wierd under the arms (suspect it's sweat (Eugh) residue and deodorant residue). Any ideas on how to super freshen them up?

BritabroadinAsia · 13/09/2014 13:48

So sorry to hear of your losses, control, and lucy, Flowers to you both, sending (v un-MN) hugs.

Well done on all the renovations everyone, they are inspiring! It's great to read all your tips and ideas. em, how did the porridge go? There's an awesome Bill Grainger recipe for a banana and maple syrup porridge that some Aussie friends put me onto - it's a bit fiddly for every day, but lovely at the weekend.

I'm having some successes, and the odd epic fail with my self-imposed screen ban- 2am late night last night after a box set binge. On the upside, no wine was involved though perhaps some cheese was eaten and not recorded on MFP

Moisturising is on track, flossing and nails much improved. Exercise is good, though weight loss variable - scales are down 2-3lbs, then next day back up a 1lb. Need to step away and maybe just weigh once a week.

Did a big wardrobe sort out, and tried on some outfit combinations to help with the daily decision making process. Have a pile of stuff to sell/give away, which is good.

BritabroadinAsia · 13/09/2014 13:52

ememem, just saw your last post - have you seen the film Rush? Breakfast of champions, and all that? Just sayin'.... Wink

CallingAllEngels · 13/09/2014 19:24

ememem I love frosted strawberry pop tarts - don't think they sell them over here

ememem84 · 13/09/2014 22:14

Oh I love pop tarts. I hate porridge though. Can't quite get use to the texture. Flavours are good and recipe above sounds yummy. But it's the texture that freaks me out. Ick

Sore this evening. Went riding for the first time in forever. Legs are so sore. John-wayning all over the place.

lucysmam · 13/09/2014 22:40

Calling Cadbury's have changed their chocolate. Not sure how...but it's just not the same. I gave up on the easter eggs because they just weren't right!

I'm dithering a bit about funeral outfits so there may be fb pics for a bit of help. Pinstripe trouser suit with plain white tee underneath, or black wraparound dress with either (pale) mock snakeskin shoes or black boots with flowers embroidered on them. Budget as small as possible to make either one work....HELP!!!
