Operation Renovation: The last of the summer wine, and sorting out Autumn wardrobes

ControlGeek · 23/08/2014 18:13

Following on the heels of the previous renovation threads, this one will seal the deal on Summer and take us nicely into Autumn with a flurry of mn scarves and flashes of seasonal nail varnish.

As always, this thread is for all types of renovation - diet, hair, make-up, clothes, or simply finding ways to make more time for you.

The rules are simple, make a list of 10 things (or as many as you are comfortable with) you will do to start to work towards your renovation goal and decide how frequently you need to do these.

Morning all Smile

No make up day here (may put on a little bit to nip out for milk though later on). I'm still in pj's atm - been up hours, feels like it should be lunch time!

Dd1's already thrown a strop about doing homework Confused & 2 is currently huffing & puffing about something (I wasn't listening so no idea what).

I don't imagine we'll do much today, dp's dad has a medical condition which has suddenly worsened & is in hospital so we'll mostly be trying to cobble together funds to travel to Bournemouth (it's not looking good Sad ).

If I get to it, my plan for today is

*exfoliate
*defuzz
*pumice feet
*file finger/toe nails & maybe paint if I cba, if not just a coat of clear polish.
*face mask
*dye hair
*check brows for strays
*clothes/uniforms out for tomorrow & check the girls school bags.

Tomorrow I start my BIG PRE CHRISTMAS SORT OUT AND CLEAR OUT. List is ready for starting in the girls' bedroom.

Right, best go wash brekky pots. Have a lovely, relaxing Sunday all Smile

lucysmam · 07/09/2014 09:34

I forgot...Hazchem how about make Sat/Weds body scrub in the shower days since you already started yesterday? & then add something else on Sundays?

Would a tick list/notebook help maybe until you get into good habits? Smile

Who had the notebook & was very organised? Can you tell me how you're organising it if you see this?

Right...really off this time Grin

Blondieminx · 07/09/2014 12:29

Thanks Calling the fledglings moves quite quickly I think, I just need to be consistent about doing the missions Grin.

Lucysmam I hope your DP's dad is as comfortable as possible. Are you taking your DC's to Bournemouth?

Just off to the garden centre in a tick, need to do my autumn hanging baskets!

lucysmam · 07/09/2014 14:42

I'm not sure Blondie, probably not tbh as it'll be too expensive. dp will more than likely go on his own. We've been told to call back after 4ish for an update. He's delerious & in and out of consciousness, keeps pulling cannulas out so they've had to sedate him and use a drip into his neck to push fluids through him.

Nothing we can do from here except wait. They're growing a culture atm to find out what an infection is. Once they can treat that, we should have a better idea what's going on.

I forgot to add to my list earlier that I need to defuzz my top lip as well as the other things I listed.

ememem84 · 07/09/2014 16:39

Ok. So I've been absent for a week.

Have been moisturising all week. And have exfoliated both face and body. On the way to being super smooth.

Haven't bought any new clothes, have been working through wardrobe. Today's outfit is skinnies, feet (but later flipflops) and Tshirt.

Food wise have eaten meat twice this week, loads of healthy veggies. Loads of water.

Walked to work every day. And have gym-ed 3 times.

Tomorrow's outfit - black skinny trousers, white top, blue blazer.

JemimaMuddledUp · 07/09/2014 18:48

Right, it is Sunday night which means renovation night!

to do
Take nail varnish off hands and feet, file nails, hand/foot cream, repaint nails.
Shower, exfoliate, shave legs.
Wash and condition hair.
Moisturise body.
Pluck eyebrows.
Face scrub and mask.
Plan outfits for the week, including accessories.

I have planned my healthy meals for the week using MFP and have got my swimming kit ready for the morning.

I am also hoping for an early night, after I've watched Strictly!

lucysmam · 07/09/2014 18:51

Aaaaarrrrrggghhhh!

Hair dye disaster...right glove split so I have a fetching reddish brown right hand Confused & my bottle/brush thing isn't big enough. Holds half a bottle of dye at a time & I need two bottles so no good Sad Never mind. MIL will probably find some sort of use for it Grin

lucysmam · 07/09/2014 20:54

I've come to vent here 'cos there's no-one in rl & I don't think dp would appreciate it right now....ignore this one, it really is just a rant!

I'm actually pissed off for dp. His dad's gf isn't telling any of us here anything without us chasing for info.

We found out in the last hour that his dad was responding well to antibiotics for the infection...but by the time she called he had taken a turn for the worse & has been fitting.

He's now on a ventilator & heart monitor etc.

But of course we didn't need to know these changes straight away...the end of the fucking day will do Angry

& btw she is NOK so hospital won't tell his SON anything (according to her)...if I could get hold of the bloody woman I'd be telling her to f' off with her NOK nonsense - of course the hospital will talk to his son, they're related! I imagine any solicitor will/would tell her the same as well (hopefully it won't get to that point)

Maybe it's a power thing - being in control of something right but ffs! surely the man's sons should be top of the list to contact, never mind wait until the end of the day to tell us that he took a turn for the worse hours ago.

(sorry to derail, needed to vent but didn't want to put a post up iyswim - ignore away Smile )

Karbea · 07/09/2014 21:10

Family's are a nightmare! Can't he talk to the hospital directly?

lucysmam · 07/09/2014 21:20

Dp's mam's finally managed to get through to her that we need to be kept in the loop even though we're 100's of miles away & got a number for the hospital.

She must have spoken to her after we did.

Am very frustrated right now with it all Angry

lucysmam · 07/09/2014 21:22

how did your hair go btw, I neeeeeed to know!! Grin

Karbea · 07/09/2014 22:15

I am so pleased with it! I wish I'd done it weeks ago! Just wish I'd done a perm rather than semi perm now as I guess it'll fade quite quickly. I ended up just bunging all the dye on in one go as I found it impossible to just do the roots!

lucysmam · 07/09/2014 22:53

Ah good, glad it went well! Any chance of a pic.

I suppose the upside to a semi perm is that a disaster would have washed away without too much damage. Now you know it's a good result you can do a perm in the future Smile

Blondieminx · 08/09/2014 01:14

Lucysmam oh dear, the DP's dad's gf sounds a proper mare! Best to chat direct with the hospital in future and bypass her completely I guess? That whole sandwich generation thing sucks doesnt it!

Karbea Hurrah for good hair Grin.

Hazchem · 08/09/2014 07:22

That sounds like a nightmare Lucysmam. The midweek srub is a good idea actually. As Im doing nails or toes on Sunday night. I've got the diet doodle diarywith space for exercises in it so will keep note of my other bits and pieces in there too. I've already covered up the target weight page with my list of ten things.

Has anyone else been readying the frumpy thread? I have noticed quite a few things I do thinking they make me look better listed as making me look frumpy !

Helenagrace · 08/09/2014 16:19

I've been following the frumpy thread too. I think I must be a serial offender! I work mostly from home and on non client - contact days it's so much easier to wear yoga pants and a t shirt!

lucysmam · 08/09/2014 17:07

Afternoon (ish) all Smile

Dp's on his way to be with his dad as it's still not looking good. I've spent the day mooching - trying to be busy but failing miserably! I have broken two hoovers though while spring cleaning the girls' room Hmm Pulled the wire out of one yanking too hard to make it go where I wanted and the other isn't picking up now.

Wore my new jumper and ballet flats with jeans today. Have had a reaction to my earrings in my right ear though so they came out this morning. Plan to sit and properly paint nails tonight after labelling the last of the uniform. They look bloody awful all reddish so will file them right down too (might use the clippers for speed then file to neaten them actually).

JemimaMuddledUp · 08/09/2014 19:59

I haven't looked at the frumpy thread, but I imagine I'm guilty of quite a lot on it. I'm guessing that Breton tops, tunics with leggings, parkas and ballet flats featured? Grin

Have just spent my £15 Boden voucher in conjunction with the 20% discount and free delivery on some more Breton tops. Have ordered 4 colours (grey/black, green/ivory, red/ivory and navy/mustard), but I only plan to keep the 2 that suit me best.

Ta Da
Hot cloth cleansed and moisturised
Swam before work
Walked 3 miles
Ate healthily
Drank lots of water

I went bare legged today (wearing a navy Boden jersey dress), but it really was too chilly. Back to trousers tomorrow I think as it isn't really cold enough for tights. I hate this between seasons indecision - I am ready for autumn proper!

Blondieminx · 08/09/2014 20:41

Lucysmam at least your DP is there, being a good support to his dad x well done on your cleaning mission, cleaning so hard you broke 2 hoovers is scary but impressive Grin

Jemima yahuh! Re the weather. Was freezing on the school run but too hot by lunchtime. Layering is the way forward ATM!

Ta da:

Hot water & lemon
Fly lady mission for today and tomorrow done
Going to try and get an early night tonight but have some volunteer paperwork to sort out on the laptop first.
Want to do my nails but have promised to help my DM with her garden tomorrow so there's no point in doing polish!

lucysmam · 08/09/2014 21:22

Grin Blondie I'm very Blush about it...one is my MIL's that we borrowed the first time I broke our little one. I'm not hoovering again for a while...may convince my friend up the street to do it for me with hers though.

I feel like a spare part stuck here. Dd2 is missing dp & very emotional Sad She had a wobble at school & had to be snuggled to sleep tonight.

I've moisturised again tonight...doing well with cocoa scented cream Grin Nails are going back to normal looking instead of reddish.

I still have my hair to dry shortly, may leave straightening it though until the morning. Ready to sit down & do not much. Might read the frump thread actually & do my online shop.

Clothes are out for the morning. Along with a pinny of dd1's to pin & then take up while she's at school and a pile of stuff still to label.

My ear still feels sore where my earrings have irritated so will skip them tomorrow. I might have a rummage for a bracelet to wear though - I have loads so there's bound to be something to go with my cream holey knit jumper and jeans.

Helenagrace · 08/09/2014 21:30

Much better on the water front. Walked with DS on the beach for half an hour too.

Jemima I'm another one wishing the weather would sort itself out. I'm ready for a hint of autumn chill! Dry, bright chilly days are my favourites.

One of my top ten was to get myself more of a social life so I've arranged to have a drink with a ladies social group tomorrow night. They'll probably be nutters!

I'm liking the effect of having extra sleep. I'm finding it easier to resist the 4pm call of the biscuit tin! Plus I have more patience with the DCs and their homework.

ememem84 · 09/09/2014 06:51

Big day today. Am up and showered at present. And am trying porridge for breakfast. I hate porridge. Dh reckons it'll help me be less snacky. So I'm being brave and am giving it a go.

Walked to and from work yesterday, 40 mins each way. Same again today.

lucysmam · 09/09/2014 07:45

Morning ladies Smile

emenem, good luck with today (what is today? ignore me if you don't want to tell Smile )

I'm just straightening my mop...went to bed with wet hair last night & woke up looking like Wurzel Grin

Can't decide whether to stick to flats on my feet or put boots on. It's quite chilly this morning. But it warmed up yesterday Confused

lucysmam · 09/09/2014 09:43

oops Blush ememem, sorry!

Does anyone have any suggestions to stop my irritated earring hole from itching? It's driving me nuts Sad

Hazchem · 09/09/2014 10:13

What about some sudecream?
