Are Kipling bags a bit shit?

Right, I have loads of lovely leather bags but they get wrecked in the constant torrential rain here during the winter months.
I have a few wee satchels and cross body bags but I just want a lightweight, fabric bag that I can fire a few bit and pieces for DD(2) when I go out a walk. I don't want to spend an awful lot as I have other lovely bags I could use when going anywhere other than the swings.

I've seen a few kipling bags on amazon for around £20-£30 but there's something about the designs I'm not sure about. I don't know if they're just too functional looking. I don't live in a particularly stylish town (leggings and long t-shirts are the look du jour!) but I don't want to look like a hillwalker.

Any input would be gratefully appreciated.
I'm 33 btw.

They can go in the washing machine?!
I love mine, I have at least 4 and the monkeys keep the dc's occupied (for a few seconds) while travelling.

Have a look at the Kipling web site
Regular offers in there and can always then compare re prices in other stores
House of Fraser have a good Kipling range and can regularly buy with 50% off from there
Kipling do leather bags as well and they are gorgeous, really soft leather and hard wearing as well as stylish
The Helena Christianson (not sure of spelling there) are lovely and so roomy

Cristalle · 25/08/2014 12:19

i like them! wish they were 20-30£

GobblersKnob · 25/08/2014 13:45

Cristalle £36 is the most I have ever paid for a Kipling, and that was for my large Helena Christensen, I got the leather HC clutch for £28! You just have to stalk them on Amazon until they are cheap enough to buy.

SirRaymondClench · 25/08/2014 14:08

Ok... What is wrong with the monkey?!

storynanny2 · 25/08/2014 14:09

Oh yes, come up like new in the washing machine.

Toofattorun · 25/08/2014 15:22

There's nothing wrong with the bloody monkey!

I keep mine on my bags. Life's too short to be too serious.

minkah · 25/08/2014 15:34

Those look really nice, selks. Where d'you get them?

Clarabum · 25/08/2014 19:21

I got this one here
I bought it in coral. Perhaps a wee bit bright but I couldn't justify £60 on a black one until I know i'm going to like/use it. £27- bargain. Away to google the other bagellini ones.

Toofat I do too! I actually quite like mine (Daya) and it wouldn't have occurred to me to remove it!

Selks · 25/08/2014 21:55

Minkah, I got them from Carrypassion. They were really helpful and got the colourway I wanted shipped over specially from the states Smile

polyhymnia · 25/08/2014 22:11

OP, the Garan is next style I want, having played with it in store. Hoping to track down a reduced version of the Tropical Flower one in black ( a subtle pattern).

Re monkeys, first I find everything like that a bit kitsch ( cf the Radley dogs, which I loathe ) and second I actually have an irrational dislike ( not phobia) of real monkeys, I'm afraid.

polyhymnia · 25/08/2014 22:13

PS must also second how well they wash in the machine .

Footie I came on this thread just to see if anyone knew if you could dye them (have asked before but got no response Sad).

A friend gave me one but it's really bright. I was hoping I could tone it down a bit. I shall give it a go. Thanks

SingingSands · 26/08/2014 00:37

Oh Kipling bags are great! I bought one each at Christmas for DD and DN, and guess who uses them most? Yep, myself and SIL!

Yes I have a wallet too, it is a proper 'mum' affair, and I take a perverse pleasure in packing it with loyalty cards and receipts.

It was the only one I could find that could fit everything without being massive, and I do believe it is indestructible and such a pretty colour

I do off the monkeys and give them to ds, I don't judge anyone for keeping though Grin

Sootgremlin · 26/08/2014 10:59

That should say, take off the monkeys! I don't assassinate them! Shock

Clarabum · 26/08/2014 13:03

Scotgremlin. What wallet did you get?
Heh heh re assasinated monkeys.

Sootgremlin · 26/08/2014 17:49

It's this one

Again, price depends on colour. I have a blue one, bit darker than the sky one on there, easy to find in my bag though!
