Following on from the coat thread does anyone know or recommend good warm
Water proof trousers?

Rugby season has started again and ds is much more interested in playing and watching it this yearsand I don't want to freeze!

Try Craghoppers at sale time - you can get winter waterproof trousers with a fleecy lining. Got a pair for £20ish and they have been invaluable for having to stand around outside in horrid weather.

..having said that, I can't see any on their site at the mo - they have overtrousers and these ones in the sale:

Rohan are not stylish and are also not cheap, but some of their stuff is very practical. And good, fast customer service, in my experience. They have a permanent Sale department, called The Souk. Might be worth a look? www.rohan.co.uk/bargain-travel-and-outdoor-clothes-in-the-souk
The same link will take you to their main website.

As a fellow Scottish poster said on another thread, if you want really warm and really waterproof you tend to end up looking as if you are heading off into the hills. Which, to be fair, is what Rohan stuff is designed for.

As someone who has to wear waterproofs quite a bit, I think I'd be happier with unlined, lightweight but truly waterproof trousers over a warmer pair underneath. The Craghoppers trousers mentioned by previous poster sound good. For all waterproof trousers, though, make sure that they are breatheable. It's like wearing a plastic bag, otherwise.

Thanks all.

I think warm is more important than waterproof as at the stadium we usually are seated and covered so it's more about warmth.

Last night it was getting a bit chilly as the sun went down so think warm this important.

Don't mind looking like I head for the hills.

Was looking at crag hoppers and will look at rohan

Had also been checking out cheap ski salopettes (sp?) on eBay

Might be an investment especially if I'll be using them lots.

Heading to a north face outlet tomorrow so will have a nosy there too.

Have you thought about merino base layers? Could wear over waterproof trews. They are toasty! I have some from TK maxx and also some more expensive ones.

I second using waterproof trousers over a thermal base layer. That's what I do and have always been warm. It means you can easily add layers as required so perhaps more flexible than a thick pair or all in ones?

Would winter walking trousers be any good - eg. here and similar here. I think they are basically softshell trousers but they are stretchy and slim cut so should look OK too.
