Make up from scratch

Can anyone suggest best basic make up items for sensitive skin? I am having to throw out all my make up due to streaming, itchy eyes whenever I wear any. It's also all very old - 2 to 3 years plus. Thanks.

No. 7 mascara is good for sensitive eyes. Ask the assistant to show you the designated one (sorry, I can´t remember the exact name).

Simple products are nice for cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Sorry I know that´s not make-up per se. (My sister has extremely sensitive skin but loves Simple skincare). I believe they have a foundation / tinted moisturiser now too although I don´t know what that´s like.

Thanks Happy. Good to know No. 7 is good for sensitive - I tend not to usually ask the assistants for advice as they generally just read out the label (very nice though). Like the sound of Simple tinted foundation/moisturiser.

La Roche-Posay and Clinique are good for sensitive skin and sensitive eyes.

Other things that might help you avoid irritation:
Replace your mascara every 6 months.
Wash makeup brushes every week.
You can even get disinfective products for makeup so you avoid too much bacteria growing in it. Replace products that change consistency, smell or colour.
You might also want to replace eyeliners every 6 months.
Make sure to remove your makeup before going to bed.

Hope you find something that works for you :)

I have sensitive eyes and find that Maybelline waterproof mascara in the bright yellow packaging is good because it doesn't clump or flake. (But you must change it every six months. If not, it does start to flake and your eyes will itch like crazy.) It does smudge a bit under the eye, but only a little.

I have sensitive skin, I particularly struggle to find cleansers and toners that don't aggravate my skin. I find Simple extremely harsh, their cleanser literally burns my skin - Lush is my saviour for skincare. Definitely yes to replacing mascara and eyeliner regularly, I use No 7, they have a good range of mascaras. Also avoid putting fingers in eyeshadows but use clean brushes. I would try one new product at a time for a few days rather than a whole load of new things at once, then if you do get a reaction you know what's caused it.

Agree with clayspaniel, La Roche-Posay has some good skincare products. I can particularly recommend the facial moisturiser with SPF 50, it´s light and really pleasant to wear. Doesn´t feel like sun cream at all. Also I´m allergic to many other sun creams but this one is fine without the weird smell of other non-allergic formulas.

Sorry, I meant "Agree with carpaccio " above. ^
