Talk to me about pants! The underwear type, not trousers

I have been trying to buy some pants/knickers/kex/underpants that are not

  • skimpy
  • lacy
  • flimsy
  • flowery
  • covered in bows
  • microfibre/other synthetic, but a glug of Lycra is fine

I guess what I want is Sloggis with a bit of a pattern. Gap have managed to fill this er, gap, for years, but have gone all lacy.

I am 43, a bit chubby and have 2 young DC. I don't want pulling pants, just not boring, slightly sensible, natural fibre, everyday pants.

Bunbaker, I think I am currently wearing the M&S no VPL ones you have referred to.

They are 50% modal, 45% cotton and 5% elastane. They look like apple catchers. Foxy, they are not. Hmm

Victoria's Secret (I know! Bear with me)
They do briefs or other fits, massively comfy too. I buy from the trafford centre store or eBay

M+S are ok if you choose carefully - I have a favourite style and stick to those.
Tesco and Asda had really good lightweight but elasticated knickers last winter - I hope they'll have similar this year.
But if you're looking for something more specific, try

Items usually arrive in jiffy bags in the letter box, purchases nicely wrapped in tissue paper, service is swift, efficient and indeed, discreet.

The last lot I bought were from Tesco and they are fine.

humble that website is just about the compete opposite to what I want from my underwear!

I think I must be very heavy on my pants - I run and cycle a fair amount, as the supermarket/M&S multipack knickers always go saggy and start fraying within a few wears.

I know you've already done some orders but I have to second Uniqlo - I share your pants needs (right down to getting them from Gap until they went flimsy and annoying) and Uniqlo have them - really quality, comfortable and supportive especially the shorts style, but without being boring or styleless. You can get flowery but there are also loads of plain or simple striped ones. I find sizes match Gap's, so I'm a large in both (approx size 14).

Another vote for Victoria's Secret. Their cotton pants are £20 for 5 pairs and come in loads of different styles, lacy/non-lacy, hipsters, shorts etc etc and they are SO pretty.

OP, have you tried not wearing knickers when you run? I never do.

Ametsyst I don't wear pants when I am cycling (I wear Lycra shorts). I have tried running au commando, but don't like it at all.

I do like Bonds; but I get the ones in the sale from John Lewis. (Wonders if she can persuade Australian friend to shop some over for less)

Oops I'm back, posted then fell asleep!!
I'm a 16 and can wear the L or XL so surprisingly it's actually fairly generous

I have the same wish list op!

But I have a long body and would like my knickers to reach near my belly button and not halfway across my podgy tummy, so I don't get the double muffin too effect - muffin top from knickers as well as from my trousers/jeans! (I'm mum of 2 and size 14, I cannot avoid the muffin top, although I do my best to keep it under wraps!)

I also only like cotton, but if I find a style I like the look of, it's never in cotton!

I still miss the high leg pants that M&s made in the 90's and the knickerbox basics range!

Then you were scared off by the front page! They have some very sensible knickers in pretty colours at reasonable prices.

Yup, I came in to recommend Victoria's Secret as well. I love their non lacy, non stripperesque pants, lots of lovely bright colours and patterns and good bum coverage as well.
It's only been he last hare that I've found they've been wearing out and I bought my last batch at least five years and at least two stone ago.

So, Bike, these new knickers of yours, are they good... or are they pants? Wink

I've the same problem as happyis. What's good for those of us with a 'long' bum ie crotch to waist? All knickers cut across my bum and barely reach the top of my cheeks, shorts being the worst offenders.

aldi had some very nice bamboo knickers and shorts recently and they have been lovely.

Any feedback on the Seasalt nauti knickers in particular BikeRunSki? Really fancy a box but want some consumer evidence before I invest!
I fancy a change from plain Sloggi/M&S dullness!

I luffs my Aldi bamboo shorts and pants .

They are really comfortable and make me feel all tucked in .

I rarely get this from other makes and am glad I bought 6 pairs at the same time as they always sell out of my size really quickly.
