Do you wear skirts in winter- short ( not droopy ones)

Friend and I were having a chat about skirts.
They seem easier in summer- throw on a T shirt and Bob's your uncle.
But in Winter?

We both agreed that it's a faff trying to find jumpers or cardis to match, but I still hanker after a short skirt and long boots...

I've a very casual lifestyle re. clothes- chained to a desk at home ( s/e) and don't do formal social stuff.

So- are you a skirt person? And how do you get round the tops issue?
I'm looking at a shocking pink tweed skirt on Boden, and wondering what would go with it- grey perhaps or navy, am too old and too fair for black tops - and mulling over the grey herringbone one which is safe and boring

Yes, but generally with black tights and a black jumper, so no help to you, sorry.

SwedishEdith · 20/08/2014 15:48

I only really wear skirts in the winter, never in summer. Navy or grey would look good with pink as would brown

flowery · 20/08/2014 15:59

See I think the opposite. Skirts in summer, it's a faff because you have to worry about your glow-in-the-dark legs (if you're me), shaving, etc.

In the winter skirts are easy, just bung on some opaque tights and Bobs your Uncle. I wear skirts often in the winter, hardly ever in summer.

I'm not sure I understand why tops/jumpers would be any more difficult with a skirt than with trousers, although I'm happy to be enlightened.

pinkfrocks · 20/08/2014 16:06

I don't know either flowery but maybe it's to do with the length- tops over trousers are always 'out' whereas tops for skirts have to out but have to be the right length and shape- or something like that.
But I do agree about the legs.!

I also wear more skirts in the winter than the summer. Good pair of thick tights, some biker boots and a jumper. But then my legs look better in black tights - ok shape, just deathly pale!

HaroldLloyd · 20/08/2014 16:16

My legs are blue, I find it so much easier to dress in winter!

Ujjayi · 20/08/2014 16:16

I understand the skirt/top dilemma...I think perhaps it is proportion that I have struggled with (hampered greatly by having a long body...lucky me). Generally my solution is to wear loose cut tops or knits with neat fitting skirts; full midi length styles require neat fitting knits/tops.

Will take a quick look at the Boden skirt & come back with colour combos...

Thurlow · 20/08/2014 16:21

I guess it depends what sort of tops you have?

Most of my casual tops are either jumpers that sit at the waist, or check shirts.

Ujjayi · 20/08/2014 16:22

is it this one?

Orange (rich, vivid hue rather than either burnt or neon hue)
Navy
Magenta (which would intensify the colour of the skirt)
Grey
You could even try a bright green.

alemci · 20/08/2014 16:30

for work I sometimes wear a line knee length skirts with boots in winter with long sleeved cotton t shirt and cardi as I get hot. often Boden or Laura Ashley. I do wear trousers too

alemci · 20/08/2014 16:33

black velvet or denim skirt with white top and cardigans in various colours. I feel more attractive in a skirt

pinkfrocks · 20/08/2014 16:52

Ujayi
Yes it's that one.

Thanks for the ideas- I look awful in orange or any strong colours. My 'season' is light spring , or 'cool soft' is you go for that definition.

Mulling over the blue check, plain grey or pink...

This is why I live in dresses in winter I just put a crew neck jumper over it. I can't cope with choosing a bottom AND a top!!!

VisualiseAHorse · 20/08/2014 16:58

I like skirts in the winter - stops the bottom of my trousers dragging in puddles, and skirts look great with welly boots too.

Black tights, and any vaguely co-ordinationing jumper.

alemci · 20/08/2014 17:01

I like that skirt but do you constantly dry clean it?

mrskitty · 20/08/2014 17:02

I rarely wear skirts in summer due to thigh chafe-age, however as soon as it's cool enough to wear opaque tights then out come all my skirts and chunky boots.

I love my autumn/winter clothes...

I too wear skirts more in winter than in summer. Actually I tend to wear dresses, which means no faff at all finding things to go with them – well, cardigans, but that's easy.

With the shocking pink tweed skirt, yes, grey or navy would look great. Also green, if you suit a darkish green (I don't think lime or pea-green would go, although I haven't looked at the skirt).

Or a muted stripe?

But on skirts in winter generally, I go for skirts in a solid colour and either a neutral (grey, cocoa) or a contrasting jumper on top. A coral skirt with a grey jumper for example, or a wine jumper with a mustard skirt.

I love the thick tights and short skirt with chunky knee boots look.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 20/08/2014 17:05

Another skirts everyday in winter. Black tights. Boots and a mixture of tshirts, shirts, woollen jumpers and cardigans. Forever 21 is my best friend for tops to go with skirts.

bonkersLFDT20 · 20/08/2014 17:09

I like the skirt, but I'd look like I'd got dressed in the dark if I matched it with the top she's wearing - too busy.

I wear short skirts, thick tights, boots and either a skinny rib top (usually with a massive long cardi on top if I'm at home because I'm a cold morsel) or a chunky jumper with a thermal top underneath (to stop woollens itching).

bonkersLFDT20 · 20/08/2014 17:10

£79! Ermm, not in my budget.

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 20/08/2014 17:11

I wear lots of skirts in summer and winter. In winter I tend to wear fitted jersey, leather, knitted skirts with widish bottom jumpers of blouses with elastic at the bottom or a cardigan and loosish boyfriend T shirt. I find it a case of trying on different length tops and skirts but now vie got my 'look'. I usually my skirts with opaque tights and either knee high boots or suede shoe/boots. I have long dark hair and wear a lot of black, charcoal, cream, red and purple in the winter with lots of silver accessories.

Artandco · 20/08/2014 17:12

I wear dresses more as easier. Already co ordinated

However with skirts I tend to have a few patterned/ bold skirts and just add plain tights/ top

BarbaraPalmer · 20/08/2014 17:13

i have cankles, so can only wear skirts in boot weather

I get those uniqlo merino jumpers and they go fine.

pinkfrocks · 20/08/2014 17:25

bonkers I'd only buy it with a 20% discount.

And wool doesn't need cleaning or washing that often- if it doesn't get actually dirty and it's lined, it doesn't need cleaning.
