Need advice for dh as thing he is stuck in a rut from 10 or even 20 years ago. T Shirts with labels on aren't a good look are they?

Who can give me some rules and also some pics/blogs of things that are appropriate?

Also work wear. Needs to be shirt and tie but not city wear.

Bloody hell, dh has been in his rut for eons, any input would be great!

strawberryshoes · 19/08/2014 16:18

Looking at the Guardian this weekend and it all seemed to be pastel trousers, boating shoes without socks, and blazers. DH would look like a right dick in those... So also watching with interest!

marne2 · 19/08/2014 16:27

Dh is the same, he lives in labeled shirts, jeans and v neck sweaters, at the weekend he wears jogging bottoms Sad.

bluestrawhat · 19/08/2014 16:41

mm.. dh seems to think that it's fashionable as long as it has a label on it like Superdry which might be the case for teens but I think it looks a bit sad now.

DH is nudging 50 and edging towards golf-casual. It's horrific. I'm at the other end of the spectrum sadly, still kidding myself that New Look is totally age appropriate at 35.

When I can persuade him into his casual clothes (every day of the week involves work for which he has a uniform or playing golf) it's generally decent brand jeans and either t-shirts (John Rocha / French Connection \ Duck & Cover etc) or a t-shirt / shirts and v neck jumper combo.

lornemalvo · 19/08/2014 16:55

DH here still mostly wearing polo shirts and jeans or shirts and jeans.

Pastel trousers and boating shoes without socks would be very funny on him.

lornemalvo · 19/08/2014 16:57

O.m.g. I'm nearly forty and still wearing new look. I'm guessing that is not good.

ELR · 19/08/2014 17:02

Be carefull what you wish for ladies! DH is 41 and and in the last 18months or so has started wearing much more fashionable clothes, this is mainly due to turning 40 and an influx of new young media types in his office, most of the time he looks ok sometimes even really good but sometimes he looks ridiculous. The other thing is he sometimes looks more fashionable than me!!!

I sent my DH on a House of Colour men's style day. It helped him get out of geeky TV themed tshirts.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/08/2014 18:37

Dp lives in jeans and either a blue jumper, a blue shirt or a blue t-shirt. He's look a complete nob in pastel coloured trousers.

LadyFairfaxSake · 19/08/2014 19:11

Jeans, khakis, Timberland shoes or boots, RM williams boots, nice shirts (Charles Tyrwhitt are v good), Canterbury sports wear looks good & it's good quality.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 19/08/2014 20:04

H still likes his labels, but he's moved to more discreet ones. Such as crew clothing, gant, polo, Lacoste. Plain round neck t-shirts or polo shirts with just the tiny embroidered logo. The crew ones are really good. Lovely thick cotton and wash well. His ones that are 3/4 yrs old look as good as the ones brought a few weeks ago.

He wears with cargo shorts in the summer and jeans in the winter. He's too stuck to get him to wear chinos or chino shorts. But at least the tops aren't what our teenagers wear.

MamaLazarou · 19/08/2014 21:07

High fashion on men always looks a bit daft, IMO. My husband is 40 next year and wears jeans (NOT skinny), cargo pants, band t-shirts, that sort of thing. He always looks good to me.

For work, he favours the 'geography teacher' look .

Kevin McLeod?

NerfHerder · 19/08/2014 22:07

Gap- it's easy just to send him there- they do casual and workwear, Their work shirts are pretty good, casual trousers great, work trousers good (as long as you're not in a formal, suited environment).
They do socks/underwear too.

No denim. No-one in our family wears denim. Neither of our parents did, we don't, our children don't. Perhaps it's because we're all academic-types... corduroy is much more our thing Wink Think Open University c. 1977

bluestrawhat · 19/08/2014 22:12

Thanks all. Think there need to be some blogs out there or Belindas for men!

My 40 something year old man is wearing his PJs atm....

runnyhabbit · 19/08/2014 22:20

Dh turned 40 last March, and has a handful of labelled tshirts & hoodies which he wears well - think it depends on the logo itself iyswim. He's into slim fit jeans (which he really suits being an athletic build and 6ft 4 Envy ) and desert boots. P

50ShadesOfSummer · 20/08/2014 07:00

My DH is mid forties and still takes an interest in clothes. He mainly wears skinny-ish jeans, checked shirts, t-shirts with "quirky" designs (OK, a these are sometimes a bit sad), DMs, converse. Recently been on the hunt for a good black denim jacket but is unable to find one he likes. He is more particular about clothes than I am: he would never wear an item with a shop name on it for instance.

Oh, and BTW lornemalvo and mrssmith79: New Look is perfectly fine for me and I am also the wrong side of 40.
