Hi All

Ok, I do apologise profusely for this but I need Black Boots or similar

We have a young patient in our Paediatric ward that if very ill (I don´t wish to cause any distress to anyone) he will not get better. For various reasons the ward, staff and his family are going to have a very early Christmas for him. I have been asked to help and have happily agreed to dress up as Mrs Claus (Santa is unfortunately not possible).

Now I would really love to make this young patients day as wonderful as possible. Christmas Trees, lights, faux snow, Christmas carols and Christmas diner are being arranged along with presents etc.

I do fortunately have a Mrs Claus costume which is pretty authentic, and so far I have found a few bits but I am missing boots / Mrs Claus shoes and I can´t find anything I take a sized 8 and I don´t mind spending a bit of money on them.

I have found these red and white stripe tights or would something different be better?

And this Hat

I do also have this cloak or rather one virtually identical red and white cloak and this cardi since I figured that Mrs Claus would only wear her cloak for traveling???? My arms need to be covered btw, due to scaring.

But I am short on boots - don´t mind them having a heel even a very high heel but they need to look like something Mrs Claus would wear what with all the snow at the north pole, What else have a missed?

How would Mrs Claus were her hair? Mines long but I can put it up easily but how?

Also happy to send a card. Great idea!

newnameforanewstart · 17/08/2014 13:27

Oh see this is why I love MN.

Ok. I´m going to try and go through all the suggestions as I go but if I miss any I am sorry.

I am known for my love of Christmas and over the years have been given quite a bit of Christmas jewellery. My Christmas earrings start on the 1st December and I am still going NYE!

I have been trying to channel Mrs Claus and have come up with a few ideas.

Icicle earrings because the north pole is magical of course they don´t melt?

Christmas ornament and icicle earrings

I also have a pair of father Christmas earrings there just the face and beard and long which I normally Christmas day - will dig them out and take a photo.

Have attached a photo, of my Christmas Charm bracelet I have necklace the matches it too - got to dig that out.

In fact the only type I don´t seem to have is Christmas bauble earrings - anyone seen any on google??

Love the idea of a elf phone call - Hmm will have a think about a suitable elf person might need to rope my BF in.

Mrs Claus cookies in a box - great idea

As is the make a Christmas ornament for the tree - Jellypudmum great roll!

Got the Christmas ribbons out to stick into my pockets.

I think the idea of loads of Christmas cards sounds wonderful - I´ll approach the parents tonight and enquire if this is something they would like - I´m sure they will be very touched and say yes.

I´ve spoken to my wonderful friend that makes patchwork quilts for a living. Who has offered to make me a Patch work Mrs Claus apron and a matching quilt for his bed - Would a 7 year old boy like a Christmas patchwork quilt do you think??? I know my DD would have loved on at that age but I´m not too sure if a boy would?

I´d love to take a sack full of present down from the elves' what sort of things could I buy to fill it? Stocking filler sort of bits iyswim. There are 9 other kids on the same ward (Although in different rooms) and I can´t leave them out so I need bits and piece for girls and boys from 7 to 11.

Sorry I'm a bit rubbish with ideas so just giving this a bump.

Actually I wonder if I can go link the Christmas topic to this, there are MNers there who plan Christmas from Dec 26th onwards who will probably have some amazing ideas.

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2014 22:15

I'd happily send a card.
Have a nosey round Home Bargains, they have decent present/toys for a few pounds. It's my go-to place for birthday party presents.

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2014 22:17

might get some inspiration here

If Santa Claus himself can't cone, make a special handwritten letter from him for your patient / the other children on the ward. I bought some parchment coloured paper from Hobby Craft and an italic pen and wrote my two dc their own personalised letters from Santa. Decorate with glitter and put a bit of fake snow inside envelope so that when it's opened a little flurry hits the ground. Also sealed the envelope with a real wax seal.

Would the children enjoy watching a Chritmas movie (polar express, nativity, Santa paws etc) with a mug if hot choc with mini marshmallows floating on top?

Tradition here is to always have new PJs. Could you contact local shops / supermarkets and ask them to donate new pjs for each child!!?

Jellypudmum · 17/08/2014 22:52

Ooo, just remembered. The first time my dc watched polar express we made sure there was a special box hidden under the tree containing a bell identical to the one the boy finds from Santa at the end of the film. It then has pride of place on our tree every year. Got the bell from a craft / sewing shop and added our own red ribbon!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/08/2014 22:58

If Santa can't come you could try PNP. They do video messages from Santa. They haven't started this year yet, but if you emailed them to explain the circumstances they might be able to help?

Follyfoot · 17/08/2014 23:10

What a lovely idea Smile

Is there an outside area visible from where he is? Just wondering as something like this would be amazing - a sleigh and a real reinder or two.

ihearttc · 18/08/2014 08:54

Definitely think he'd like the patchwork quilt, my DS has a couple that my sister made for him over the years that he treasures and says he's taking them to university when he goes - he's currently 11.

Very best of luck with this - the little boy is in my thoughts.

ilovemonstersinc · 18/08/2014 09:21

What a lovely idea.

Well done to all those involved.

Will keep the little boy in my prayers Flowers

im not Christian but we still celebrate Christmas and forus cChristmas isnt complete without Christmas dinner, the smell of all that delicious food mmmmm.

Miggs28 · 18/08/2014 09:27

Sat here with 'something in my eye' - sniff!

What a wonderful idea and I would be more than happy to send a card - have lots stashed away.

Love the Christmas film idea and new PJ's for the children

newnameforanewstart · 18/08/2014 11:20

You are all fab!

Follyfoot thanks for the link - I am going to contact them and see if they can help. I´m not that far away so fingers crossed.

Love the idea of Father Christmas notes - I do that with DD so I will do them for all the kids no problem.

PNP, are fab I´ve sent them an email explain the situation and asking even if we could have last years footage but being such a big company I am not holding out too much hope.

I´m going to pop down to my local home bargains, pound shops, Hobby craft and sort of science shop in a bit and see what I can pick up, will also check out amazon - thanks for the links.

I spoke to the parents last night and they would LOVE Christmas cards, and are very touched. I´ve just got to find someone that is happy to act as a Christmas Post Box..... Will come back to you all when I have.

Can I just say a big thank you to a few people and companies?

A online shop has "donated" for the postage and packaging costs only some Christmasy Piglet and Pooh PJ´s and fluffy Dressing gowns for the girls

The Local Disney store that heard radio appeal and has kindly offered Christmas Tree decorations and Character Mugs for all the kids

Debbie, Kim and Edna from the WI who have offered to bake Mince Pies, Yule logs, Christmas Cake, and ginger bread men.

Janet from Admin that has bravely offered to make Snowman Soup and Bottles of mulled wine for the parents.

The local independent rental shop that has offered all his Christmas DVD films for free.

The hospital Kitchen staff, that have very kindly offered to make Christmas dinner for the ward. It is SOOOO very kind of them and very much appreciated.

The local Shopping centre that is having a Toy drive - Any surplus is being donated to the local women´s refuge and

To everyone here that has made suggestions, sent PM´s, offered various presents, cards etc.

Can anyone suggest PJ´s for the boys ideally the need to be Short sleeved, or button through. For example the girls ones are vests and Checked Pj Bottoms with purple dressing gowns. I have NO idea what sort of things Boys are into (Not one single boy my family we have all had girls, same with my friends)

I´ll try and put a link on the Christmas Thread and see if anyone has any good ideas.

Now I´ve got something in my eye.....

tesco short sleeved and button through boys PJ's

Not sure about the top end of the age range, but superheros, angry birds, turtles and lego from the links above would go down well with younger ones..
WOW on the response from all those around you. Good on them!

newnameforanewstart · 18/08/2014 13:18

Addictedtosugar.
Thanks - will check them out.

I know it has been amazing, to be fair a few people have been press ganged by relatives but the hospital has been amazed at the response from local people its been really heart warming.
