Hairdryer Recommendations Please

Need a new hairdryer, mine has just died, was old so can't replace it with the same.

I like to blow dry and have quite a bit of hair so want something powerful but not too heavy.

Don't mind 'investing' in something.

I know many are much of a muchness so am interested if anyone has used anything noticeably good.

I love my parlux. I think it was about £70 but worth every penny. When I take my time I look like I've had a salon blowdry and I can go 4+ days between washes instead of having to do it every other day.

Taking my time means a 10-15 min blowdry rather than the 30+ it used to take with my old babyliss but many mornings its shit I've got 5 mins before I have to leave for work Grin so I do the top properly but because its still dampish underneath I'm curly kinky/frizzy by the end of the day I've got fine midlength curly hair

MyMeMy · 16/08/2014 19:51

Another vote for Parlux, they dry faster and better (don't ask me how) than any other brand I've used. I have the 385 with a diffuser as I have curly hair, they are expensive but last for years.

MrsDavidBowie · 16/08/2014 19:55

Parlux here.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/08/2014 19:56

Parlux parlux parlux! Amazing things.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/08/2014 19:58

Look around for an online bargain,I paid 55 for mine from beauty bay iirc.

CountBapula · 16/08/2014 20:02

Yup. Parlux.

OooOooTheMonkey · 16/08/2014 20:12

I have a wahl. I have long thick hair and love it!

temporaryusername · 16/08/2014 20:46

Could I tag a question on about the Parlux...are they heavy? I need to get a really lightweight hairdryer with a diffuser.

MamaPain · 16/08/2014 22:29

Well it sounds like I need a Parlux then!

I've looked on their website and there are a few varieties. I'm happy with any of the prices, but I can't work out what would be best for me. They all sound good so I don't know how to choose. Any Parlux users able to advise?

Also temporaryusername, the Parlux website lists their weights.

Oh, thanks MamaPain, will take a look.

Toofattorun · 16/08/2014 23:05

I have the Parlux 385 and it's amazing.

I bought it because it's one of the most powerful yet very light to hold. It also has a built in silencer so you don't need to purchase one separately. It dries so quickly and makes my hair feel soft. Plus they've got some very cool colours! I just wish I had brought it holiday with me!

I've just got the new Parlux 385 and I am in love with it. It's sooo light and so powerful. My hairs looks glossy and swishy and is bone dry in about 15 minutes - I have fairly long hair and a vast amount of it.

IAmNotDarling · 16/08/2014 23:32

Haven't tried Parlux but love my GHD - no longer need to use straighteners.

MamaPain · 17/08/2014 00:19

I've ordered the Parlux 385 in Turquoise. I got it direct from Parlux as they're currently doing free delivery and seemed like a good idea in case of any issues I have.

MyMeMy · 17/08/2014 08:31

Mama, you won't regret it Grin

Temporaryusername - the 385 with diffuser is lighter than any other haidryer/diffuser combination I've used. The diffuser is smaller in diameter than my old Babyliss, but does the job on my just past shoulder length hair.

temporaryusername · 17/08/2014 17:41

Thanks MyMeMy Smile

Turquoiseblue · 17/08/2014 18:15

My SIL has the GHD one and raves about it- she has curly once frizzy hair but it s fabulously swishy and beautiful and she gets such great results from it, it convinced me to get one, however haven't opened the box yet Blush bought direct from GHD site

OooOooTheMonkey · 17/08/2014 21:14

I'm now willing mine to die so I can get a Parlux. In fact some wires are visible on the flex where it joins the hair dryer so I'm certain that calls for a replacement right? Although DP is a flipping electrician so he will probably offer to fix it and save money Confused Grr.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/08/2014 21:16

I think those wires might have to fray badly...plus, the parlux is quite small so it doesn't look particularly expensive to a man who would think a small hairdryer must mean it's cheap! Grin

Toofattorun · 17/08/2014 22:07

Yes, just but it in the same colour as your old one and if he's anything like my DH, he won't even notice!
Honest, I would say it has cut my drying time down so much. It used to take me 20-25 minutes to get my thick hair dry and it now takes me 10-15 minutes!

OooOooTheMonkey · 18/08/2014 19:47

I'm sold! As soon as I'm off my mat leave (too skint at the moment!!!) I'm getting one of those bad boys Smile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 20/08/2014 21:29

I went away for a few days and used a friend's hair drier, goodness I'm SO used to my parlux now that I really struggle with anything else now. Apart from taking forever to dry with a normal one I have crap hair when it is eventually dry as the parlux straightens and de frizzes as it's so powerful.

ChishandFips33 · 20/08/2014 21:35

monkey I laid my straightners on my old hair dryer wire (in my defence it was a genuine accident) and I now have the above parlux
It dries my hair in minutes and as my time is very expensive it makes it a massive ongoing saving - and I use the time saved to make DH a cuppa before I leave for work - win win!
