October Wedding in a field. What would you wear?

Well, not exactly a field but a Marquee in National Trust grounds for the service and drinks reception followed by evening at a country house.

I am clueless as to what to wear to be warm, stylish, and party ready?

Shoes firstly are wedges acceptable? Walking in heals on uneven ground fills me with fear.

I have looked on line on and off for a week and no further forward.

I'm 40ish, 5ft 4 and 9ish stone with an ample bust but OK legs. Colours are Spring particulaly pink/coral.

My instinct is to go in my North Face dog walking coat and boots as I hate the cold. But really I don't want to feel bulked out.

Budget around £150 If anyone could point me in the right direction to start I'm sure I would find something.

Would a trouser suit be OK. I have only been looking for skirts and dresses?

I'd go for a tweed jacket, rydale do some at very reasonable prices which are fair quality.

Shoe wise I'd go for wedge heel if you need the height.

TomatoSorbetWoman · 15/08/2014 15:51

Fine wool dress

kinkymouse · 15/08/2014 15:55

I have never looked good in any tweed jacket I have tried been quite big of boob I always feel a bit Clarissa Dickson.

Any pointers for appropriate wool dresses?

tomato Nice but not sure on the neckline, it's a bit high.

It might be. Bit early.leave it till September. Def sleeves. That's the key. No twatting about with shrugs. Look also at baukjen if you like jersey type dresses

kinkymouse · 15/08/2014 16:08

I know I am looking a bit early but in A/W I struggle with colours that suit me. Everything I tend to like style wise is in dark or bright colours. Why couldn't it be a summer wedding?

Navy. Everyone suits that

temporaryusername · 15/08/2014 16:54

I think things might look up a bit in the next week or two as more Autumn/Winter stuff starts appearing.

herecomesthsun · 15/08/2014 17:17

Boden have an extra ordinary pink/ red tweed skirt and jacket, also matching shoes but they wouldn't work in a field here

MrsLettuce · 15/08/2014 19:47

You need to make sure you can get thermals under whatever you wear, by the sound of it. A trouser suit really is fine, as are wedges.

You might not like this dress but it looks lovely and warm.

lavenderhoney · 15/08/2014 23:05

Is the tent in the grounds and where's your car?

For afternoon I would wear a fitted coloured dress with a jumper or velvet blazer with a massive scarf and fiat boots.

Then I would nip to my car and fish out my change bag with heels, party handbag ( pre packed) make up etc and get changed at the venue/ speedily in car to emerge fabulous for inside dancing etc.

lavenderhoney · 15/08/2014 23:08

If you decide on a suit, make sure the top under it is party style. Or wear a dress with a jacket which you can dump for a lovey wrap.

No one will notice you've pushed off for 30 mins unless you're expected in wedding pics!

BikeRunSki · 15/08/2014 23:09

Wellies!

NellyNoodle1 · 16/08/2014 02:50

Hmm it's only October I wouldn't be rushing to grab the thermals yet it could be a beautiful day.

If it's only the service and the drinks I would go for a autumny type dress but nothing too heavy and maybe have a nice coat or something as back up - I would have thought rain was the most worrying thing so make sure have something to get you to the car and back.

But then I am used to being outside and am always boiling. I would have thought lots of people in a marquee would warm it up a bit.

It sounds lovely.

MrsLettuce · 16/08/2014 09:40

this (sizes 6, 12 & 16 left) is irrelevant to the wedding. Also very much your thing, I suspect.

kinkymouse · 16/08/2014 09:53

mrslettuce I love that. Going to have a look at sizing on the site.

I'm off into town today for a bit of a try on. I'll check back with my findings later.

If you fancy anything from Baukjen, Marie Claire have a 20% off code in this month's issue.

This looks nice

Coddo · 16/08/2014 11:10

Yes. With that kind of hat too. And a coat the same length

Coddo · 16/08/2014 11:10

(Maybe in maroon or dark red)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/08/2014 14:25

I love hats like that, but look an absolute idiot in any kind of hat (tiny peahead).

Coddo · 16/08/2014 17:13

Me too. But hats ace. How odd
