Quick make up advice - basic kit for hot weather

Ok - I am going to a hot, humid climate next week. I rarely wear much make up these days but want to look presentable.

I wear glasses and sometimes contacts but really struggle with eyeliner/mascara and contacts - it makes my eyes sore and dry. I usually wear a bit of concealer and powder.

Is there a foundation or base that will stay put in humidity that's ok for sensitive skin? Would that, cream blush, and a touch of mascara make me look reasonably put together?

I was thinking about a manicure too. Trying not to spend too much as I've already had to buy new business clothes.

I have a quick shopping opportunity tomorrow so would appreciate some advice!

Presumably you'll be putting sun cream on regularly throughout the day so I wouldn't bother tbh.

upyourninja · 14/08/2014 22:41

I will mostly be inside as it's a work event - I have full schedules almost every day

I would go with BB or CC cream as a light base?

Cream Blush and waterproof mascara would be perfect.

upyourninja · 14/08/2014 22:41

Thanks - could you talk me through BB and CC creams? I am not at all up to speed on make up. At all!

Or maybe instead of cream blush I would go for Benetint (the benefit cheek and lip stain) because it would add light colour without sliding off.

upyourninja · 14/08/2014 22:43

Ooh thanks - I used to have all benefit stuff many years ago but never tried Benetint.

I'm no expert but they are basically better versions of tinted moisturisers, supposed to do things like colour correct (CC version) and have SPF.

I use the boots botanicals one recommended on here, it's really nice. I do find they don't last very long but easy to reapply because they are basically just moisturiser.

upyourninja · 14/08/2014 22:47

Thanks! Lots of products make me rashy and some even allergic so I have fallen out of the habit. I mostly buy Origins if I need anything new - so should I buy one of those creams instead of a moisturiser?

The boots one is very good value incase it doesn't suit you!

I use my moisturiser as well as bb cream, maybe that's just me though!

Thanks Smile

Invest in a good primer, which will keep your makeup base on all day and also smooth out your skin.

I wonder how well cc/bob cream would last in hot and humid conditions. I wear revlon colorstay as it lasts through a bit of sweating with powder blush over the top (nars or Clinique). Yes to waterproof or smudge proof mascara (I like diorshow iconic to wear with contacts). I bring a pressed powder compact for touch ups although don't often use. Am also experimenting with urban decay setting spray (a spray which fixes makeup). I live in aus & in summer struggle with sweat proof makeup - but don't stress too much as my experience is that most offices and indoor venues are over air conditioned anyway.

Brow and eyelashes tint which can reduce the need for mascara. Then a lip gloss in a pale or peach colour with a good moisturiser/suncream to give you a dewy look. Though tbh you will end up a sweaty bedraggled mess so steel yourself and go bare faced! It is very freeing and frankly much better for the skin. Smile

Origins have a BB cream that also has SPF.

I live in a hot and humid climate, powder is my best friend.

This is quite useful for topping up sun protection but giving a bit of coverage too, for face or body -

I'm in 30 degree heat at the moment and getting on very well with Estée Lauder Double Wear Glow BB cream.

Thank you! I might have a chat with the women at the counters. Unfortunately am taking my toddler along so won't have much opportunity to think - it's better to have a plan in advance!

I only wear make up a couple of days a week normally but I like to get my game face on for important work events, so thanks for the suggestions!

Like the look of the bareminerals SPF. And the mascara. Thanks.
