Bras again. If you wear balconette bras, do you get wibbly wobbly action?

I have bottom heavy boobs, and balconette bras are recommended. But I get some wobble over the bra IYSWIM. The bra ends, boob starts, wobble. The bra fits well but my boobs are, emm, not quite as firm as they used to be, hence the wobble action. I don't like it. Is there an alternative? Or should I ignore?

I have bottom heavy boobs and balconette bras look rubbish on me.
I wear a plunge style instead.

Timeforabiscuit · 13/08/2014 22:41

Go for another style, mime need a full cup - I love the look of a balcony bra though.

Timeforabiscuit · 13/08/2014 22:41

Mime?

Dear god there's an image I didn't need !

ouryve · 13/08/2014 22:41

I rather like my wobble. Not quite as much as DH, though :o

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/08/2014 22:44

Most bottom heavy boobs don't work in plunges as they tend to fall in to the middle. If you feel too soft for a balconette then look at balcony and full cups - there will be trial and error to finding one which has quite a small top section as some will gape.

Ujjayi · 13/08/2014 22:44

I wear both balconette & plunge bras. The plunge style is much better but only if they are non-padded/soft cup. Once padding is part of the equation my bottom-heavy boobs seem to "fall out" of a plunge bra. Calvin Klein Seductive Comfort bras (from eBay & TK Maxx) are the best IMO. Current range of Seductive Comfort have moulded (sp?) cups so no good.

higgle · 13/08/2014 22:54

Yes, Dh always says "jelly on a plate"

lurkingaround · 13/08/2014 23:00

Thanks everyone. Yes, DH says there's nothing wrong with a bit of wobble. I, OTOH, am not a fan. It's like jelly. Seriously. Wibble wobble.

LuckySaint and Ujjayi, I actually have a sort of plunge from debenhams, (?gorgeous range I think) and it is my best bra. It doesn't last v long tho, the quality is poor enough. I am a 28-30, I buy the 30 cos that's all there is, and it's not bad at all, but stretches v quickly. I will try and find the Calvin Kleins you mentioned.

I have a little sigh when you say 'too soft' Statistically. Sounds a teeny bit sad. But true. Waah! Is balconette different to balcony? I always thought they were the same. Full cups give me v poor shape and lift.
I am fed up to the teeth looking for decent bras.

I've just got a lovely soft cup one from m&s.
I'll link it tomorrow (in my phone in bed)
I paid £18 last week but they're now 19-50 online.
It's called 'lace wing spacer bra'

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/08/2014 23:44

The line between balcony and balconette is a very blurry one, and often what's sold labelled balconette is a balcony...

The way I think of them, generally, is that a half cup has a very wide, almost straight across neckline. A balconette is a bit fuller than that, has a bit more coverage but still relatively wide and open. And a balcony is more coverage again. The difference between a balcony and a full cup, traditionally, was in the construction of the cups. In a balcony, the strap comes directly from the fabric which is underneath the breast like this which gives better lift than a full cup, which has a horizontal seam - like this one

But you also get hybrids like "plunge balcony".

Which bra have you been wearing just now, and what cup size range? Maybe I can suggest something in between which might work? Wearing 30s instead of the 28s won't be helping.

lurkingaround · 13/08/2014 23:45

That does look good. Here it is. But it only starts at a 32 back, which, according to M&S as the whole world knows, is the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM SIZE women over a D cup wear. Hmm. I am at best a 30F, at worst 28G. ('Best' as in availability.)

Thanks Statistically. I quite like the look of that Freya balcony one actually. Today, and nearly everyday, I have the aforementioned Debenhams one on. It looks like it shouldn't suit, it's a bit plungey, and moulded but it is quite good. 30F. I tried the Cleo Juna, Maddie, Marcie, the Idina(?), can't remember what else. Will rummage and report back tomorrow. I haven't looked for new styles in a while because I get cheesed off with it.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 13/08/2014 23:55

Hmmm. Debenhams own brand have their own laws, honestly - whether those fit or not seems to be kind of random!

If those cleos were all too open then I think something like the Freya balcony style might be worth trying - they have a lot more coverage, but they're soft so less likely to gape. Fantasie might work for the same reason. Have you tried anything Bravissimo branded? The Alana is a sort of balconette/balcony boundary but the top is quite closed which makes it relatively good on bottom heavy sometimes. The dotty spot is also great.

lurkingaround · 13/08/2014 23:57

This is what I'm wearing almost everyday. Looks like it should be wrong but it's pas mal at all, except it starts at 30, which is fine-ish when it's new, but gets lax v quickly.

lurkingaround · 14/08/2014 00:04

Thanks so much Statistically. Yes I tried a Bravissimo one last summer, delighted, came home and I had jelly quadraboobs. Sent it back, bigger cup size was too big. I can't remember which one it was. I don't think it was the Alana, that doesn't ring a bell. I think I tried a Fantasie Rio? (is there one?) too, not good.

Ok, I'll give a few of those you mentioned a go. I do think the Freya one looks good.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 14/08/2014 00:13

There's a Freya Rio, which is cut quite differently to most Freya bras -have a look at the pics and you will see what I mean. It sounds like you need more fabric at the top so the Freya balcony or something like dotty spot might work.

BuggersMuddle · 14/08/2014 00:29

I am large of boob. In my teens and early 20s I wore balconette bras all the time.

Nowadays I still wear them, but not under certain things. I have not examined the reasons behind this too carefully Hmm as I'm a bit heavier so had put it down to that rather than any 'wobble'.

Having said that, there are some fantastic (and actually quite attractive) full / 3/4 cup bras. DP has actually chosen some for me (I'm 33 BTW, so not that old) and they are great.

I love Fauve 3/4 cup bras. No spillage, no wibble and great under most tops. They're my favourite.

I have other (balconette, moulded etc. according to what I'm wearing). I do find that I'm less able to get away with the same bra for multiple situations than I was when I was younger, but I do think a big part of that is my weight rather than ageing.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/08/2014 05:44

Yes.

I hate balconette/balcony bras, for that very reason. Gave up on them years ago.

I have been wearing nothing but Elle MacPherson Dentelle (the full cup version) for years. Boring, but works for me.

WildBillfemale · 14/08/2014 07:41

I have big boobs and balconette are fine but I generally need a larger cup to contain them properly. Full cup underwire Ts are my fave though

lurkingaround · 14/08/2014 12:10

I have a friend who swears by that Elle Dentelle bra Koala.

I will go through another 'trying to find a perfect bra' phase and when I find it I will report. It is a pain tho, cos a lot of stores don't carry much in my size so it's online ordering and returns are a pain. Last time I think I ordered and returned everything from Figleaves 4 times. Growl.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/08/2014 12:11

They are the best, *Lurking"! They're comfy, fit me perfectly, and come in gorgeous combinations. They're also $70 full-price, so I have to move quickly when the sales are on.

I'm wearing the Rhea at the moment. Hoikes my 32FFs up a treat with minimal wobble :-)

I'm a 'big' fan of Panache bras.

lurkingaround · 14/08/2014 12:48

That looks lovely Cereal. think I ordered a few Panache ones in my last order, not sure they were right. I might add it to my lengthy order. All I want is one well fitting beautiful bra. I think my kids must think all bras are nude coloured and plain.
