Slim knee high boots?

BettyNettle · 13/08/2014 07:46

I am looking for boots that have a very slim diameter just under the knee IYSWIM. Most boots unfortunately look like wellies when I put them on which is a real shame because I love boots but have only once or twice found really slim fitting ones.

And no, I am not extremely slim all over, only my shins are!

Are there brands that cut a bit slimmer for example? I would really appreciate some help.

The ones I find best are ones with good elastic panels. Hobbs do them www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0214-AT08-007H025&productvarid=0214-AT08-007H025-BLACK-39&refpage=shoes-boots/boots or there are these in massimo dutti www.massimodutti.com/es/es/women/zapatos/ver-todo/bota-elásticos-c1009229p4526030.html?colorId=709

Duo apparently do different calf fittings but I've never found any I've got on with

Duo are really good.

if you go to one of their shops they can measure you properly around the calves and suggest various styles.

I got mine via the Covent Garden store

Aldo and LK Bennett are often cut slim, and Jones do slim versions of some of their boots.

If they are just a bit gapey I wear leg warmers over tights to bulk them out a bit.

Hi, i have the other problem and have quite big calves. But the answer to your problem has already been said by billstickers. Just wear leg warmers or thick socks over your tights. It will bulk them out and is now also quite fashionable. Obviously keeps your toes and feet nice and warm on a cold day too !

Thanks!

The massimo duties ones look like they might fit. The Hobbs link does illustrate what I mean though, if you look at the picture showing the whole leg. I guess because the boots are a but more rustic it is ok to have that inch of gaping just under the knees.

Will go to duo (expensive?) to see no also ask in Aldo and Lk Bennett.

Leg warmers is a great idea too!

I have ordered a couple of slouchy dune boots just to try them on.. With the logic that slouchy boots are meant to be lose. Might post a pic later. Quite a lot of gaping.

Problem with leg warmers though (and I love that look) is that they won't go with a more elegant or chic or whatever you want to call it look. But maybe boots are not chic with pencil skirts anyway.

The last sentence was actually a question!

Duo every time but make sure you look at the reviews because sometimes the ankles are not cut to fit slim legs and can be baggy.

OublietteBravo · 13/08/2014 09:17

These are the only ones I've ever found that actually fit me - agree that most boots look like wellies if you have slim calves.

AwkwardSquad · 13/08/2014 09:20

I've found Fly boots to be quite slim around the calf, but they're generally a chunky style and unfortunately they leak so not very practical!

Duo boots quite good because of the specialist range of calf fittings but still a bit too roomy around the ankle and I'd say the quality is only so-so.

The Hobbs riding style with elastic panels are slim but quite solid-looking iyswim so not so good with delicate clothes. Fine with tweedy woolly stuff.

Italian boots often have a narrower cut - might be worth looking for a good independent shoe shop / boutique?

Pinkfrocks · 13/08/2014 09:23

If anyone does try DUO do try to go to a shop for fitting. I have spent a fortune over the years returning boots to them then made the effort to go to their shop. It saves a lot of hassle in the long run because their sizing varies hugely- I've got 3 pairs and they are a 37, 38 and 39 foot- I am a 5 ( or 5.5)

Also take note of the leg height- some are too high for me and come way too far up towards the knee.

Mumelie · 13/08/2014 20:32

Jones are great for slimmer fit boots - but you'll need to go in and try on I find. I don't get on with Duo as have skinny ankles to and find although the boots fit my calf the ankle really bags.

LaydeeC · 14/08/2014 09:10

I second Jones - or try boots with straps across the body of them that can be tightened.
Hobbs as well the legs tend to err on the slimmer side as do Russell and Bromley
