Anti ageing skincare on a v tight budget - Recommendations please

Hi, looking for some recommendations please. I am 39 and have noticed that I am starting to age around my eyes, also have laughter lines and frown lines. My skin type is dry/v dry. Just wondering what other people with similar skin of similar age use please. I use facial wipes (cheapest own brand) for removing make up and then apply either astrol or aqueous cream morning and night at the moment. Think I possibly need a night cream and maybe an eye gel and/or some serum.

Face wipes are really awful, all full of alcohol which is ver drying. Switch to a cream cleanser and use a hot water soaked flannel to remove makeup. Double cleanse (do it twice) then use a facial oil, doesn't have to be £&, Superdrug vit E oil is raved about on here) then Nivea blue pot cream or Astral. Stop using aqueous cream as a moisturiser - it's a cleanser not a moisturiser, and will be irritating and drying your skin. In the daytime you should use an SPF moisturiser, the only thing that will prevent ageing.

ThisBitch is right. Stop using aqueous cream. Find a richer/heavier moisturiser that suits your skin, and, SPF SPF SPF. Everyday of the year. Minimum factor 30. Take 1000iu of vit D3 to supplement the lack of sunshine.
Don't smoke.
Watch alcohol intake
Watch sugar intake dagnammit I love the stuff

Massage rosehip seed oil into skin after showering / rapt night. I add a few drops of my fave essential oil too!

Worth double-checking whether dry or dehydrated? Salli Hughes discusses this here.

I use Nivea q10 moisturiser, eye cream and serum. To wash my face I use neutrogena as I get lots of blackheads and this helps them. You never need to pay full price for Nivea as either in boots or supermarkets it'll be on offer at half price or Bogof.

no anti-ageing product does anything. Use sunscreen, don't smoke, eat properly and use whatever moisturiser makes you comfortable.

you'll get enough vitamin D while wearing sunscreen as long as you go outside enough.

Number seven from boots have a great skin care anti wrinkle range, and the prices aren't mindblowing.

I'd recommend investing in either a very good sun cream that you can wear daily without looking like a melting waxwork, or getting a good tinted moisturiser with a high sun block built in.

Clinique do some excellent ones that aren't drying - city block is very thin, almost like a tinted liquid moisturiser, whilst the BB and CC creams are a bit thicker, and more like a light foundation.

Dry skin tends to wrinkle easier than greasy skin, so make sure you are using good moisturiser in the morning and at night. You could get a night cream, which tends to be much richer than daily moisturisers. I'd recommend using creams rather than gels. Again, the best eye cream I have ever come across is the clinique laser...cream (or something. It's an eye cream with the word laser in it). It's super rich and I genuinely noticed a difference after using it for a few weeks.

I have to say I think a rich/heavy special night moisturizer is a heap if a waste of money. Most of it ends up on the pillow.

I also am of a different opinion to specialsubject on the Vit D issue. As it is a lot of us are deficient. Add in SPF 30 or 50 and it is nigh on impossible to get enough vit D without supplementing.

Use SPF. A face cream that claims miracles will only have a temporary effect - any moisturiser with plump out fine lines for a bit - and and cream that actually gets rid of wrinkles would have to be a licensed, pharmaceutical product and there's no way you could buy it off the shelf at Boots.

Thanks ladies, I will seek some of these products out. Think I am definitely a dry skinned, have been the same since my first pregnancy and my Mum had dry skin. Will also start taking a vitamin D supplemment, although I do get outside quite a lot, have to use quite a bit of sunscreen as I am fair skinned - have started to tan very marginally this year for the first time ever.

So I went shopping yesterday and bought:

A flannel
Some Asda cleansing cream
Asda youthful serum (have seen a recommendation in a magazine)
Asda version of q10 eye cream
Asda version of q10 day cream (anti ageing)
Asda version of q10 night cream

Routine is:

Morning - Splash skin with water, dry. Apply serum, day cream and night cream
Evening - Cleanse face with cream cleanser using a flanner with hot water. Night cream

Here's to a slightly younger looking me or a least I can halt the ageing for a bit. Also bought some vit D supplements which I will start taking

I had cancer, and during treatment my skin aged by ten years, I swear. I had a cupboards of gels, serums etc, until hubby bought me a clarisonic face brush, which I use with sensitive Cetaphil. I then use natural coconut oil. My skin has NEVER been better, honestly I'm shocked. I've given all my anti ageing stuff to my daughter as she will use it up. Main thing is ALWAYS put on SPF 50 first or use a good foundation. I'm 46 and have literally one wrinkle between my eyes, and the dryness is completely gone. My skin feels plump and nourished.

cardigal · 14/08/2014 18:22

If I were on a budget I'd buy the L'Oreal Revitalift 10 serum (usually a third off in Boots) and just add that under any moisturiser. It plumps out lines and is full of silicones so makes the skin feel glassy.

dun1urkin · 14/08/2014 21:02

Superdrug vitamin e has a good range, and is on two for £4 at the moment.

0pheliaBalls · 14/08/2014 22:58

Boots Simply Sensitive moisturiser, I swear by it. It's SPF15, has no nasties in it, is incredibly moisturising and is about two quid for a big bottle. Better still it's often on offer - at the moment it's just over a pound. The whole range is excellent - there's a richer moisturiser, a creamy cleanser, cleansing washes and eye cream. I've used it for years and would never use anything else, although in summer I do use a factor 50 sunscreen underneath if I can be arsed
