Aging skin and serious remedies...

Hi I am in my early 40s and I have noticed in the past year that of all odd places, my chin, yes my chin is aging rapidly. I have developed a lot of lines which are not so 'fine'. They are quite deep. The result is that my skin almost looks as if it's covered in old 'pitted' acne scars... this is not what the problem is because I never had acne in that area, apart from mild when I was younger. But the lines that I have give off this sort of appearance.

I would really appreciate advice from those of you who have used heavier than norm regimes to combat aging, i.e. retinol, obagi skincare, skin peels, etc. What have you tried and what has worked? What results have you had when you've treated your problem 'aging' areas? What would you recommend? Thanks!!

Dorasee. I'm early 40s too. Commiserations! Wink

I tried retin A cream (bought over Internet). Excellent. Really smoothes the skin. Only thing is you'll have to wait for the weather to turn and the sun to disappear as you can't use it when you're being exposed to a lot of sun. I tried this last winter obv.
I recommend starting with a 0.025% or 0.050% cream. Going straight to the 0.1% will be too harsh.

The other thing I tried was derma rollering. As in micro needle rollers. I didn't want to pay a beautician £600 to do it. So I bought my rollers and the surgical spirit to clean roller with on amazon for £20. Really works.
Again you can't really do this in the summer as sun exposure is an issue.

Both are very effective and not too expensive.

If you've money to burn, there are laser rejuvenation and pelleve skin tightening treatments. Not tried these as they seem industrial and not without serious risks (google and see) plus quite a lot of expense is involved.

Oh and OCM. I only oil cleanse now with oils like hazelnut, sweet almond or rice bran. Works a treat and smooths my skin.
I also sometimes use a few drops of pomegranate seed oil or rosehip both really smooth the skin. Not as much as more hard core treatments tho.

I have caci treatments regularly (am 54)

NigellasGuest · 12/08/2014 18:12

can you tell more about Caci, MrsDB?
I don't know why, I always imagine it is needle related because of the name looking like Cacti!

p.s. and in answer to op (sorry)!... I have recently turned 50 and I am very keen on using exfoliating toners and then going in with the serums

Its a lot of electronic rollers and I have the wrinkle treatment which is a bit painful....but its a tolerable non invasive treatment.
Have one every six weeks and facials every month

Brown spots are my problem Blush they make me feel really old. Sad

Has anyone tried anything that works?

Jackie0 · 12/08/2014 21:03

I'm using a glyconic acid toner , it really refines the skin. Cane & Austin Miracle Pads at SpaceNk. Be warned these treatments are addictive ( & expensive) Blush

LabradorMama · 12/08/2014 21:06

Have you tried Alpha A Liquid Gold? It's a glycolic acid, I use it twice a week, overnight. Fabulous.

Hugo I started noticing brown spots, think it's from sun damage. . I started using la roche posay pigment control serum about 3 months ago and it's faded them so they are barely noticeable. I'd really recommend it. Previously I'd tried a clinique product which was useless.

I second the recommendations for liquid gold and derma roller, both have made a real difference to the condition of my skin. I think if you are talking about deep lines though then filler is the only thing likely to make a real difference.

Ifyoubuildit · 12/08/2014 21:52

I use la roche posey Redermic and it has transformed my dark spots. Amazing. I haven't really noticed any difference on the wrinkles though.

Watching with interest.......(I seem to always say that on these S&B threads......I never have anything to actually add!!) Grin

hugoagogo · 13/08/2014 21:17

Can anyone link so I get the right stuff- googling La roche posay gets loads of different products.
