Wedding outfit for DDs 10/11

We (including DDs) are invited to a wedding in October. DDs are very excited as most recent weddings have been child free so they have not been invited. They are quite keen to dress up a bit, but obviously don't want to look bridesmaidy. They normally live in skinny jeans or shorts but have been wearing some little sundresses over the summer. DD1 in particular likes to think of herself as quite stylish so if she gets a dress it will need to be fairly short as that is what seems to be in fashion (in her view). ideally it would be something that looks dressy for the wedding but that they could wear again (eg dress down with denim jacket, thick tights and boots). They are small and skinny and could not yet wear anything from an adult range.

We had a bit of a look round at the weekend and DD2 saw a couple of possibilities but not sure. DD1 did not really see anything she liked. Quite a lot of it was still quite summery which was part of the problem so maybe we just need to wait a bit. But i thought it was worth coming on here for ideas.

Also, if they wear dresses, what should they wear on their legs? In summer they go bare legs. In winter (to the extent they wear dresses) it is with thick black tights and boots. It will almost certainly be cold where the wedding is, so don't want them to go bare legs (although I guess we will be mainly inside). But thick back tights wont look particularly dressy.

Inspiration please! Assume no particular budgetary constraint at this stage (but that will depend on how much wear they are likely to get). oh, and no need for them to be matchy. Thanks!

Try johnnie B. Smart trousers, sparkly shoes and top could work too.

DealForTheKids · 11/08/2014 19:41

I second the sparkly shoes comment, I always think a pair of glittery shoes turns 'regular dress' into partywear!

MrsLettuce · 11/08/2014 19:59

There are a good few girls dresses at Zara that would dress up or down nicely. If it's dresses you fancy.

Trousers, a nice top and maybe a blazer would be absolutely fine. Quite agree.

ClaimedByMe · 11/08/2014 20:03

I got my dd 11 a dress from yumi, it was grown up but not too grown up, she wore ballet pumps but it was may so her legs were bare.

LilyandGinger · 11/08/2014 20:05

Debenhams and John Lewis both do fine gauge tights for girls, better than bare legs in winter.

AugustaGloop · 11/08/2014 20:20

Thanks for this. We had a look at johnnie b but nothing jumped out. Will look again. They both say they want to wear a skirt or dress so will check Zara.

Ted Baker do some lovely dresses at very reasonable prices for that age range

MrsLettuce · 11/08/2014 20:33

How about these two of these three? red, navy, grey shimmer. this grey floral is lovely but maybe not so easy to work with.

AugustaGloop · 11/08/2014 21:02

Thanks. The navy zara dress is apparently a possibility. Will check yum I and ted baker.
